    Fiberglass Batting Helmets

Does anyone know the year that fiberglass batting helmets stopped being made /used in Major League Baseball?

the only thing I've been able to read is that plastic helmets started in the early '60s, but I know that fiberglass helmets were still being used in the late '60s. Was there a specific year when ABC stopped production and changed over to plastic helmets? Was there a year when MLB made it mandatory for all helmets to be plastic and no longer fiberglass?

    thanks,

I own Frank Robinson's 1974 Angels helmet, so I know they were still using them at that point:

Great helmet! thanks for passing along the information. I wouldn't have thought they would have been as late as '74.

depends on the team. when the pirates left forbes for 3 rivers in mid 70, they were already using pro celd plastic helmets. just like they were the first with knit uniforms. not all teams did the same thing at the same time.

now, since the mlb dictators want everything their way, changes get done at the same time.
