I have been collecting hockey jerseys and equipment for around 5 years, and I have been wanting to get started with baseball for a while but never have, besides a few game baseballs. Well, last month I finally picked up my first baseball item: Placido Polanco's game worn hat from the July 4 Phillies vs Marlins game.
One of the things I like about collecting hockey jerseys and equipment is that it is usually very easy to photo match these items. However, what I have noticed with baseball equipment is that matches are much harder to find because there isn't much visible wear on the jerseys, unless they haven't been washed.
I am very happy considering I was able to photo match my first baseball item! The mark is faint, but definitely noticeable.
Aroldis Chapman photomatched game worn record setting hat
Chapman wore this hat while breaking the record for the fastest pitch ever in a major league game, clocking in at 105.1mph on September 24th, 2010
Chapman also wore this hat during NLDS Game 2, his playoff debut
NLDS Photomatch:
September 24th Photomatch (105.1mph record setting pitch)
This match was done by underexposing both a screenshot of Chaplan during the game as well as the photo of the hat in my possession. You can clearly match the stain as they are both in the same exact shape
Somewhat off-topic (but not really) - how do you guys get high-quality zoomed photos to photomatch? Is there freeware available that can help with this? I've tried to photomatch with some items but most of the images available online aren't high-res enough to zoom in without creating a terribly blurry picture.

I always get screenshots in full-screen HD NexDef mode, then paste into Photoshop and save as a JPG
As for full-resolution photos (not screenshots), they can be found all over. I've found photomatches on Flickr, Google. etc, and some people have access to photomatching websites that don't normally post their full-res files so that's where they come from.
It was worn Nov 16, 2008 vs Redskins. The photomatch is pretty obvious but for whatever reason when I take a pic of the jersey that stains are harder to see. This is definitely my favorite item in my collection right now.
looking for anything from former Tampa Bay Buccaneer & current Jacksonville JagRoy Miller
My newest Alex Avila. Bat is matched to 2nd, and 5th... he hit HR 11 in the 4th, sadly it was a first pitch. From what Ive seen Alex uses the same bat for a long time... so Im thinking its the same. Rich is the man once again, with a wonderful photo to show the match. Sad the Tig's lost, but rooting for Texas, they got a great team.
