Found this photo I took a while back, my 1976 Steve Myer helmet next to the helmet Curtis(Helmet Hut) sold to me, the Steve Largent repro. he had up on his site, actually new old stock and the same size as the Myer helmet. Thus, an identical non game used version of the Steve Myer helmet. Pretty cool to see the two next to each other.

they were using American flag decals on helmets way back to 1990?

I admit at first I forgot as well, then remembered the first Bush's Iraq war. They only did the flag for a brief period that season, perhaps only from mid December until the Super Bowl. Here are the best shots I could find of them during a game in 1990.

"This presentation of the American flag is a very appropriate method for the NFL clubs and players to affirm their support for the men and women of our armed forces on duty in Saudi Arabia and the Persian Gulf," Commissioner Paul Tagliabue said today.
