Howe made his Major League debut at the age of 22 in 1980 and would eventually become the National League Rookie of the Year that year, the second in a string of four Dodger rookies of the year (Rick Sutcliffe, Fernando Valenzuela, and Steve Sax were the others). He saved 17 games during his ROY season, establishing a new rookie record. The following year, Howe helped the Dodgers win the World Series against the New York Yankees. A hard-throwing left-hander, Howe's career was plagued by alcohol and cocaine abuse. Howe retired in 1996 with a career record of 47 wins, 41 losses, 91 saves, and a 3.03 ERA in 497 games.
This home pinstripe New York Yankees jersey was worn by pitcher Steve Howe during the 1995 baseball season (prior to the death of Mickey Mantle). Tagged on the tail with the Russell Athletic Diamond Collection size 46 wash tag, a "Howe 57-95" paper fiber tag, a 100% polyester flag tag and a 1" extra length flag tag. Jersey exhibits moderate evidence of game use, primarily in the form of wash wear (most evident on the tagging and in the loose stitching on the numbers and NY logo). All original jersey, worn before the Yankees added the Mantle memorial later in 1995. This jersey comes with documentation from Yankees/Steiner. View Lot Detail page
