1950's/60's Michican State Spartans game used sand knit warm-up..?

I'm trying to figure out if this is a Michigan State Spartans warm up from this time period. I know the tagging indicates the 50's, but I'm just trying to find more info on it and possibly a photo match if possible. I'm not having much luck Thanks in advance.

I think according to the tagging, it's between 1953-1960 but any info would be great. Does the G17 mean, Guard 17 possible on the tag?

I'd search the old MSU yearbooks for a style match. This is one of those unfortunate cases where countless schools -both high schools and colleges - used the "Spartans" team name. It is a beautiful piece, regardless!
