Game used Steve Garvey helmet on ebay

For those interested, I've seen this helmet and, imo, it had a different number at some point on the front and back. The outline of the previous number can still be seen pretty clearly beneath the "6" on the back and it appears to have been a 31. There are also signs of rubbing on both the brim and rear of the helmet, indicating that someone tried to eliminate the remnants of the original number.

I don't know if the Padres were an overly thrifty team during the 80s, but it strikes me as odd that Garvey would've been given a previously worn or issued helmet. The seller of the helmet is aware of this info.
