Re: Cal Ripken Jr Batting Records
Hi Mike,
I have a Ripken H&B M159 Hickory finished game used bat. The labeling period is between 1981 & 1983. Do you know when and how many of these Cal ordered?
Thanks,
John

If it's any help to you, at one time I had 2 M159 models that he used in Rochester with the Red Wings and that was 1981.

Re: Cal Ripken Jr Batting Records
Hi John --
Between 1981 and 1983 Cal Ripken Jr. primarily ordered Model P72 and Model M159 bats for professional use. His orders during that period were, in order of frequency, for hickory finish, Walker finish, or flame tempered.
Hickory finished Model M159 bats were shipped to Ripken for his professional use as follows between 1981 and 1983:
3/19/81 35 inches / 34 ounces (6 bats)
8/6/81 35 / 34 (6) sent to Rochester
9/2/81 35 / 34 (12)
2/12/82 35 / 34 (15)
4/19/82 35 / 34 (12)
6/21/82 35 / 34 (12)
4/25/83 35 / 34 (12)
Also note that on 10/20/81 one order of eighteen Ripken Model M159 hickory finished bats, 35 inches and 34 ounces, were sent to "Baseball Miscellaneous." As there was a specific weight requested and the length, weight, finish, etc matches Ripken's known orders, it is possible that they were requested for a specific event, such as a post-season tour or other event that was co-ordinated through Major League Baseball.
Good Luck in future collecting.
Mike
