Carlos Correa Record Home Run discussion

For the record book this was Correa's 36th career home run.
Adam Everett has the Astros franchise record for home runs by a shortstop, 35.
I was looking thru the stats and Correa has a homerun as a pinch hitter. (A walkoff in the 13th inning)
So..is this the homerun that tied the Astros franchise record (35) or broke the record (36) for career homers by a shortstop?
How would this be viewed?

I don't think a PH HR would count as a HR hit by him as a SS... so I'd say #35 ties the record.

I would agree that he hit one as a PH and not a SS therefore this would be #35 as a SS and is not the SS team record HR ball. Any which way still a nice ball to have. Gratz on the pick up.

I home run is a home run guys. He's the Astros shortstop. It makes no difference in the record books if he started the game or pinched hit, it will go down as a home run by Correa the shortstop. If the Astros turn him into a DH or he starts to play a different position then that would be different.

I don't think the SABR folks agree. For example Mike Piazza hit 427 home runs total in his MLB career but he goes into the record books as the all time leader among catchers with the only 396.

Ya but Piazza was strictly a DH when he played his last year with Oakland. He had 8 HR's with them not including all the others he hit at the end of his career when he DH more then he caught. That's my point, Correa is their SS who happen to PH that game who could of stayed in and played short if needed. If he moves to DH or another position then those would not count towards his SS total.

I think the rule is unless the player starts the game at the position the home run does not count at that position. The box score after that game will have PH instead of SS next to Correa's name.

Fourth paragraph answers this question. Since 1 HR was as a PH, Correa career #36 ties the Astros shortstop record, with #37 breaking it.

The box score actually shows him as PH/SS. He pinch hit for Tony Kemp (LF) and entered the game as SS
