    Re: pens for autographs

Ive recenlty tested several different pens but most of them smeared. So im still using Bic Ultra Round Sticks. The one time I used a differnt pen I almost missed getting a ball signed. The Round Sticks write the first time every time. Its the only been ive used for the last 5 years.

ok..so we know Staedtler can last a few months..but how about a few yrs. Staedtler is just like sharpie on baseballs..they look great in the beginning but over time..they will ALL bleed into the ball. That type of ink on leather just doesn't last.....and yes, I've had experience.

    Re: pens for autographs

This is the oldest (I think) autograph I have with a Staedtler. It is from Jan of 2012. Yes, it's only a year and a half old but it hasn't bled.

I think a lot has to do with how you take care of anything autographed. I have maybe 80 or so baseballs that have been autographed with the staedtler and none have any problems with them. I keep them in a dark corner of my home and no daylight and very little fluorescent light gets to them.

I have seen many ballpoint signatures on balls that have bled away to nearly nothing as well so maybe it just comes down to how well the balls were taken care of?

Hi gents, new member here but I've been collecting for some years now. I have always used bic roundstick in blue. I will never ever again use black, since my signed Maddux and Garciaparra turned purple within a few years after getting the balls signed. Unfortunately, some players will grab a pen/sharpie and sign everything with it.

I also like getting black MLB baseballs signed too and get them signed in Gold Deco-color paint pen. Comes out GREAT!! matches the gold stitching.

    I concur with Fdean.

Ask any longtime grapher and they will tell you Blue Bic Crystal.
