Three MLB obituaries, all on September 9:

Joe Keough a reserve OF in the AL for 6 seasons, died at age 73.

Keough had his first taste of The Show in 1968 with Oakland. He went to the Royals in the expansion draft, and played for KC from 1969-72. His MLB career ended with appearing in 5 games with the White Sox in 1973.

    --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Jim Greengrass, an OF in the NL for 5 seasons, two of which were solid hitting seasons, died at age 91.

First appearing in the Bigs as a September 1952 roster expansion addition for the Reds, he had fine offensive seasons the next 2 years (the first 2 years where the Reds were temporarily rechristened the Redlegs. 1953 saw him smack 20 HR, drive in 100 runs, and hit .285. He followed up in '54 with a .280 BA, 27 HR and 95 RBI.

Early in the 1955 season, he was swapped to the Phillies, where he retired after finishing the 1956 season.

    ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Jim Archer, a LHP who both started and relieved for the Kansas City Athletics in 1961-62, was age 87 when he passed away.

He had a decent 1961 season, mostly but not exclusively as a starter. On a terrible KC A's squad (was there any other kind?), he finished with a 9-15 record with 5 saves, but nonetheless had a fine ERA of 3.20. The following year didn't come close to matching the success of his rookie season, and he was out of the Majors for good after the '62 season ended.
