Arod may be suspended for Gambling!

I am surprised no one has posted this yet!

Arod may get suspended for illegal gambling.....

Officials from Major League Baseball plan to interview Alex Rodriguez about the allegations that the Yankees third baseman participated in illegal poker games.
"We take this very seriously and have been investigating this matter since the initial allegation. As part of the investigation, the Commissioner's Office will interview Mr. Rodriguez," the Commissioner's Office said in a statement.
Rodriguez's alleged participation was first reported by the Associated Press in early July. On Wednesday, ESPN.com credited an anonymous source that said Rodriguez could face suspension if it is confirmed that he participated in the games.
Rodriguez, who is currently rehabbing in Tampa after knee surgery, was warned about illegal gambling by the Yankees and Major League Baseball Commissioner Bud Selig in 2005.
On Wednesday, Yankees general manager Brian Cashman told ESPN.com, "I don't know anything about it."
Manager Joe Girardi declined comment, saying: "Let baseball handle those things."
    Thank you,
    David

The quote from the MLB official says it all: "...he goes out and does what he wants."

    Great example for kids.

Re: Arod may be suspended for Gambling!

I remember a few months after Chris Moneymaker's win at the World Series of Poker was televised I was playing 30-60 limit hold 'em at The Bellagio, and the guy next to me said, "I think that is a race car driver playing at the table behind us."

I turned and laughed, because it was the the 22 Million Dollar Man, Alex Rodriguez playing 15-30 limit hold 'em with his friends. When he got up and walked out of the room, I got up and introduced myself to him since I was friendly with some of his associates from his Seattle days. He was really nice to talk to, but he was more interested in asking me about what it was like to play poker full time.

So, we part ways and an hour later him and his buddies come back into the room looking for a game they all three can play on the same table. I suggest we start a $1 - $2 no limit hold 'em game with a $100.00 minimum buy-in (back then there were no caps on how much you could buy in for in a no limit game, the internet created that idea that since has spread into a regular happening in poker rooms) so they could all play together.

Obviously, I just wanted to play poker with A-Rod, I wasn't looking to hustle him and his friends. His buddies wanted to do it, but Alex was worried I was trying to hustle him since I was a full time player. I wanted to start a game cheaper than I was playing so I could always remember playing a game with Alex Rodriguez, but he really thought I was trying to pull a fast one.

Funny thing is if we started a game, the table would have filled up in seconds since everyone would have wanted to play with him in a low stakes game.

Funny thing is I assume he played in some of the card clubs in New York City that were semi-legal and just closed in the past few years. These clubs operated for many, many years under the understanding that New York law was that poker was not allowed to be played if a paid dealer was dealing the game. These games, which I played 2-3 times in the 1990's were honest and legitimate but I never knew they were breaking any laws since they were out in public (in a basement).

The games in Las Vegas poker rooms are all legitimate and not illegal to play.

    Funny, huh?

I don't know if Toby and A-Rod played together, but years ago Toby and Leonardo DiCaprio played together at the casinos.

MLB should have no right to suspend for these types of things. Jeez, why not suspend players who get caught for speeding or something.

Two words....Pete Rose. I know I am probably opening up a can of worms, but MLB is just concerned that if he is gambling and playing high stakes poker, is he betting on baseball? I am by far expert. I'm not even close. Just a lay person's opinion here. I know that he is an adult and is allowed to make his own decisions, but when you are one of the marquee players in the league you have to watch your p's and q's a bit more. I'm not saying that is right or wrong, just kinda the way it is.

Poker in casinos and California card rooms is legal. Baseball doesn't mind if he plays at these locations. They don't want their players playing in illegal basement games.

Then again, think any teammates ever play cards in the clubhouse anymore?
