    Re: Joe Morgan 1976 bats..

You are correct-- Model S44 bats were not only Joe's model of choice in 1976, they were the only bats shipped to him that year. In reviewing his factory shipping records from 2/16/76 through 10/18/76, Morgan received 12 shipments of bats totaling 128 bats. All bats sent for his professional use in 1976 were 34.5" and weighed between 31 and 32 ounces. All were requested to be made of wide grained wood with a Flame Treated/Burned finish and with weights marked on the knob in pencil. One interesting order shipped in mid-season had 12 bats with the words "1975 MVP Cincinnati Reds" stamped on the bat, and another 2 bats with the words "1975 World Series Champs" stamped on the bat (The word Champs may actually be Champions or another derivation of the word.)

    That's it -- the total records of Joe Morgan's 1976 H & B records.

    Good luck.
