Jersey Set Help

Hey everybody I just bought a jersey from the Braves and I was told that they dont know the exact dates the jersey was used only that it is a home set 3 jersey. I was wondering if anybody knows how the whole sets thing works like if it the same for most teams or different for everybody. Any information would be greatly appreciated. Thanks a lot!
