    Hi Rex--

Tony Gwynn's available records, from 1981 through 1997 are quite extensive and involved....is there a particular labeling period or model that you are specifically looking for ?

In general, Gwynn gamers range between 32 and 34 inches in length, with the majority being 32.5 or 33 inches. Weight is generally around 31 ounces. Most commonly ordered models include B267, C263, and G170. Other models have also been ordered throughout different labeling periods. Many Gwynn model bats have been sent to various promotional companies through the years, including Tony's own merchandising company operated by his wife, Alicia. During his quest for 3,000 hits, Tony changed bats following every hit, and autographed each bat as a 'specific hit' bat.

Let me know your specific area of focus and i will provide additional information.

Mike: Thanks for the prompt reply. I really didn't have a specific period or model in mind. I want to pick up a Gwynn bat and wondered which models he used. I didn't realize he had ordered so many different kinds. You have already told me which are the most common models; if you could also tell me which models were used for promotion that would be a lot of help. Thanks for you time and trouble. Rex

    GWYNN PART TWO (continued)

    1986 -1989:
    B267, B267C, G170C, G168C, C263, C263C, G169C, K55C, (98% of all gamers 32.5")
    Note: R43, R161, M110, went to various promotions, most were 33" or 34' in length. Anaconda-Kaye received 32.5" C263 (uncupped0 and garvey marketing received 32.5" G170 models

    1990:
    C263, C263C (all gamers 32.5' and around 31 ounces0
Note; Many K55C, C263C, C263, B267C promo bats to John Bioggs associates (Gwynn's agent), some 32.5" but most longer.Anaconda-Kaye received C263 in 32.5" as did Baseball Miscellaneous.

    1991 - 1997:
    C263, C263c, B267C,S226C (99% of all gamers 32.5" or 33")
    G170, B267C, C263 in 33" and 34" to John Boggs and Associates
    T141C, R161C to Baseball Miscellaneous
    C263C to Anaconda-Kaye
    C263 to Innovative vreations
B267C and C263C to Berry's Athletics and Ike Co.
R161 to A.G. Sports (Alicia Gwynn)

Many orders of promo bats were in quantities of 24 to 100 or more. Finishes on Gwynn gamers and promo bats are varied. For later Gwynn bats, you must go to secondary player use characteristics and provenance. Heavy pine tar, tape, and clustered hit marks (alot of hit marks) are usually seen. Authentication of Gwynn post-1983 gamers are among the most difficult of "modern players" authentications, and is virtually impossible without access to H & B factory records and well-documented resources.

Let me know if you have a specific bat you are considering or own, and I will look further into weights and finishes for you.

    Good Luck.
