    Graig Nettles

I have an early 70's S2 model Graig Nettles and I am trying to figure out whether it's from his Yankees or Indians days. I know he used an S44 too, but I was curious as to when he may have used the S2 model. Thanks alot.

    Re: Graig Nettles

Nettles ordered S2 bats in both his Yankee days and Indians days. He started ordering S2 bats in 1970 and his last order for S2 bats was on March 20, 1974. Almost every S2 order was for 35" flame burned bats that were either 31 or 32 ounces. There was one order in 1972 for 31.5 ounce bats.

Relative to your specific bat, it should be easy to tell if its a Yankees bat or Indians bat......Nettles last year with the Indians was 1972, which coincides with the last year of the 69-72 Louisville Slugger labeling period. If the bat is a 73-75 Louisville label, its most likely a Yankees bat - if its a 69-72 label, it would be an Indians bat. There is the possibility that his last S2 order in 1972 on August 2nd, could have been carried over to the 73 season.

Also - Nettles wore #12 with the Indians and #9 with the Yankees and make sure there is not a faded number on the knob or the butt of the bat.

Let me know if I can be of further help. Thanks, Jim Caravello
