Hello,
i was wondering if anyone could describe or has pictures of the different MLB logo used on LS bats from 1999-2001. i heard some are filled in meaning 1999, while other years are not? also, is there a difference in black versus blond bats?

thanks a lot

Tom-

From Birdbats.com----

"The MLB logo began appearing on the "sweet spot" right of "Powerized."
The logo sometimes is an outline and sometimes the batter is filled in solid. However, in terms of dating bats, that difference is of no apparent significance."

There is no difference concerning the finish of the bat. Natural bats were done in black while back bats were done in silver or gold.

Hope this helps.

Not sure if this helps but 2 bats in my collection include 1 from 1999 and 1 from 2000, both with the MLB logos. The 1999 one is an all black bat and the logo just has a border with silver. The 2000 one is an all blonde bat and is filled in with black

Malta's new book says the outlined logo was used in 1999-2001 and that the filled-in logo was just 1999. But, to confuse the issue on 2000-01 bats, the text references photos of both the outlined logo and the filled-in logo (page 36). Kylehess10's filled-in logo on his 2000 bat suggests that logo may, indeed, have been used after 1999. Would be interesting to see if anyone else has a filled-in logo on a bat that clearly is from 2000 or 2001.

Love the new book. It has tons of great information, but there are a few apparent inaccuracies regarding recent bats (such as saying the current branding of ash bats ended in 2003; suggesting a larger, laser-etched variation became the standard in 2004-05; saying "Select Maple" was used in 2004-05 -- it was just part of '04 before M9 was introduced; etc.).

I have a nice game used Ripken Jr. model S188 from 1999. He only ordered this model bat twice in his career (1/22/99 and 3/4/99), thus, the "hollow" MLB logo can be traced to this specific year.

Nomar Garciaparra still uses bats with the filled in logo. Did it with the Cubs, too.

Just saw this bat on eBay. It's a Galarraga bat from his Rangers days. He was on the Rangers for just part of the 2001 season... so this is proof that the filled-in MLB logo was used in 2001.

i just want to thank everyone for adding to this topic.

i was under the impression that just an outlined logo was from 1999 and filled in logo was from 2000 or 2001.

but, to add to the confusion, john taube has a tino bat on his site and he says it is from 2000, but it has a outlined logo
