Hello everyone

I noticed ASI sold a game used Carlos Beltran jersey on ebay. It went for only $371.97

Can anyone give insight here?

Here's the description:

You are bidding on this size 48 game used jersey of New York Mets centerfielder Carlos Beltran. The jersey comes complete with an authentication from ASI and prominently displays the Mets logo on the left sleeve. The jersey has a few loose threads on the number and the name plate from laundering and snagging around the color from wear. There is also the Major League Baseball tag sown on the inside of the jersey and the number 0062 appears on the laundering instruction tag. This jersey is perfect for any New York Mets fan.

Isn't there supposed to be a set tag under the Majestic tag?

And ofcoarse, there's no Steiner LOA. I wouldn't really buy any Yankees/Mets memorabilia (besides bats) that doesn't come with their LOA.

I agree with Kylehess, the absence of the year and set tag makes it hard to date this jersey and is a negative in my book too.

I agree with both of you, however, there are Mets jerseys without the year/set tag (see Steiner's site for a whole bunch of examples). The thing about this that makes me think that it was a blank and then customized to Beltran is the name on back. If you notice the Mets have a much flatter name than is shown on this jersey. If you look on the Steiner site this is backed up by other player's jerseys. I have some photo examples, but I can't post them since I am at work. If you look at Getty images you can find alot of examples. The only time I normally see the more arched type of name is with call-ups. Just my 2 cents!

i agree with chris that there are some steiner mets gamers that are missing year/set tags.

i also agree that the arch on the asi beltran is more pronounced than what can be found in game photos. see:

(all photos above are from 2006). the asi beltran could only be from 2005 or 2006 given that it lacks the shea stadium 40th patch which was worn in 2004. as well, beltran only started playing for the mets in 2005.

my question is whether or not the beltran should include any customizations? gfc currently has a 2006 steiner/mets beltran. see:

the nob arch is noticeably flatter. as well, it's a size 46 and has a +2 sleeve customization.

anyway, eric's original inquiry was why it went for so little. i don't believe it was due to the arch simply because the ebay masses have bid big on far worse items. i don't believe the same crowd that pays over $1k for a scoreboard bo jackson, over $2k for 2005/06 non-steiner yankee "gamers", or over $1k on a short-sleeved manning "gamer" noticed something as subtle as an over pronounced arch. maybe the lack of steiner certs had an impact. although, steiner's contract with the mets was made just prior to the 2006 season. thus, there may be legit mets gamers out there from prior to 2006 that lack steiner certs. prior to steiner, weren't the mets gamers handled by some company called amazin memorabilia or amazin mets or some such?

i think the sales price may partially be reflective of people's lack of faith in asi. in jan 2007, asi sent an email offering a 2004 arod home gamer for $7500. on ebay, they sold it for $2975.

$2975 seems a little low for a legit yankees home arod gamer. asi wasn't even able to get half of the original price it was asking.
