OK guys... I saw this and am very tempted. I also read some old posts regarding AMI and my tempation has been met with severe skeptism. In doing some research, I saw that a dealer who is offering a 2003 ARod jersey/pants set states that the Rangers stitched a code inside the jerseys, in an effort to prevent fakes from being sold. This was supposed to have started in 2002, which is the year of the offered jersey on EBay.

I will post the link to the EBay item below. As you will see, ARod has inscribed "game used 2002" near his signature. However, I emailed the seller and he said there is no coded tag from the team. The shirt also did not come from MeiGray, as most, if not all should have.

Any thoughts from you guys would be appreciated. Thanks in advance and here is the liknk.....

reed,

not sure how much more there is for you to know on this topic/item.
not sure if you caught these threads but if not, they may add some more insight:

meigray started their arrangement with the rangers in 2002 i believe. at the same time, arod also marketed his own items. that's not to say though that arods personal arrangement excluded meigray from receiving his gamers. there are several meigray arod gamers out there. if it were me, i'd only purchase a meigray arod. i trust barry meisel and his system more than i trust arod. there've been numerous posts about arod's word on his game used items. multiple bats with the same HR #, the AMI Arod glove fiasco, etc. there are a few players out there whose word i wouldn't believe; arod is one of them. there are several stories about arods game-used mishaps. search a few of them out.

the sellers ad pretty much lays it out. it seems to imply that a player source is always the best and most trustworthy source. in some cases, a player can be an amazing source and in others, a pitiful source. i certainly wouldn't automatically say that just because it came from a player it must automatically be good. it depends on the player. the ebay seller seems to have trusted arod. personally, i wouldn't. i guess everyone has to make the choice that they're comfortable with.

the interesting thing about this particular ebay jersey though is that it's a set 1. most of the arod-marketed jerseys were set 3's. very curious indeed. i wonder if meigray has a 2002 arod alt that is labelled set 1? that would be very interesting. perhaps you can email meigray/barry meisel and ask them if in their records they ever sold a 2002 arod alt set 1.

rudy.

Rudy,

Thanks for your insight. It's always helpful to get opinions from others, who have a little more experience in this area. Thanks again!

I've got a couple game worn AROD jerseys available in interested. A 2001 game used Rangers jersey with a LOA from Grey Flannel. Also still have that 1995 signed AROD spring training jersey with a COA signed by himself and graded A10 by MEARS!

If memory serves correct, didn't Grey Flannel also authenticate and provide their own LOA with another Rangers A-Rod jersey, and when the Meigray serial number in the tail was referendced, it was learned that the shirt in question was originally sold by Meigray as a non-worn A-Rod, however, the Grey Flannel LOA indicated it was worn? What year A-Rod and style was that shirt?

howard,

here is the original ebay auction for the gfc arod you're referencing:

http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=8777240633

previous to hitting ebay, it was sold by lelands as "game-issued":

http://www.lelands.com/bid.aspx?lot=15&auctionid=501

here is the original thread regarding the jersey:

http://www.gameuseduniverse.com/vb_forum/showthread.php?t=1877

previously, lelands properly sold it as "game issued". gfc decided that contacting meigray was too much hassle and proceeded to write a "game used" letter on it. "the standard of the industry". but this isn't the first or even second time gfc has written a game-used letter on a meigray game-issue.

here they do it on a palmeiro:
http://www.gameuseduniverse.com/vb_forum/showthread.php?t=2008

the comedy really starts though when gfc was informed that the palmeiro was "game issued", removed it, and then waited a few months before listing it again as "game-used". the first time they neglected to confirm the details with meigray. the second time they were directly told it was game-issued and went ahead and listed it as game-used anyway. here they list the game-issued palmeiro as game-used for the second time:

http://www.gameuseduniverse.com/vb_forum/showthread.php?t=6694

to wit - when gfc was presented with a meigray rangers jersey with an inventory tag in plain sight and the real status of the jersey just a phone call away, they screw it up 3 times. there isn't even any authentication work to be done. all they had to do was call meigray and they'd have the real answer. they couldn't even do that much. so what do you think gfcs odds are when they're presented with a rangers jersey that doesn't have an inventory tag? if you screw up basic addition, the odds of you doing calculus is pretty slim. anyway howard, as richie once said "authenticating is not a science". apparently it's not even common sense.

MFSQUIRREL-
It appears the A-Rod in question is from 2003, and your shirt you are offering is 2001, not the same shirt that has been questioned and discussed on this Forum.

Does your shirt also have the MeiGray tag and LOA from MeiGray?

I have several customers seeking A-Rods, however, only game worn and with the MeiGray paperwork.

Thanks.

The AROD Rangers jersey has no Meigray tag or Meigray papers.
