Goal-post gold rush?

For $300, spectators could buy "game-used" pieces of the Holiday Bowl goal posts. Fliers were distributed at the game saying the posts would be cut into 2,500 pieces and mounted on commemorative plaques, each engraved with a unique series number.

If it sounds silly, consider this:

By halftime, 430 were sold, according to Eric Parton, the owner of EMDAL Inc., the company selling the pieces. That's a quick gross revenue of $129,000.

Qualcomm Stadium Manager Erik Stover said EMDAL will buy the city new goal posts to replace the ones being chopped up for sale. Additionally, Stover said the revenue is split three ways: a third for the city, a third for the Holiday Bowl and a third for EMDAL.
