Good day forum members. As the year 2005 winds down, I would like to hear from you about your hobby experiences of the last 12 months.

What did you learn in 2005?

What mistakes did you make this year?

What was your best bargain?

What piece did you add to your collection that you're happiest about?

What other things will you take with you into 2006?

Let's hear it... and Happy New Year

In 2005 I learned that every dog has their day (at the poker table). I also learned that even though we buy and sell (ok, and trade) sports memorabilia - That doesn't mean some people aren't offended by people who wager on sports. I also learned that you only die once, so appreciate every day and don't get too excited over the little problems in life - There is too much good in the world that we forget about every day.

My mistakes? Women. I should have gone A-Sexual about six years ago.

My best bargain was just last week. I was given $50.00 in free video poker play at The Wynn Casino, and I hit a royal flush for $4000.00 as I only play my free play and quit, so I hit it in my first ten hands (actually, my 4th $5.00 hand).

My collection was added to by a ticket stub from game 5 in Anaheim where I got to see my beloved White Sox walk off the field American League champions for the first time in my lifetime. What could top that?

Finally, into 2006 I take a new approach at the poker table. I am not as greedy as I used to be. I don't have to play the high limit games like I used to. I am happy making a reasonable living. People look at me and assume I'm broke because I don't play as high as I used to. They are wrong, I just don't need to make $5000.00 a day to be happy in this world, so I will play games at more reasonable limits to make a living that is strong but with less fluctuation.

Happy New Year to all my new friends on this great forum! :)

(By the way, the best new addition to the forum is the spell-check!)

Learned that set tags can be more numerous than originally thought

Best buy: 1990 Viola mets warmup jacket w/name embroidered on back for $110 on buy it now e-bay ten minutes after it went on.

worst pick-up:. Too many Madlock things. Then I googled his baseball rap sheet and realized this talented guy isn't going anywhere(HOF)-at least for 20 yrs untill the the steriod group makes him look better.

Realized that: .... most authenticating people aren't as good as they seem-learn from this site :do your homework. That us together, this Forum is without a doubt the best AUTHENTICATOR than anything around.

Happy that:...Steiner doesn't have his clutches on the Mets stuff.

Great topic, Eric. I hope there are more replies from the Forum members.

Having collected game used equipment the past 10 years, I learned how much I didn't know. I've picked up more information through gameusedforum and Game Used Universe this past year than in the past 10 years.

I'm not sure about the bargains, but I consider each new piece to my collection as priceless. If I see something that I want for my collection, I will go for it.

My favorite piece that I picked up this year was a 1992 Mets Nostalgia Game jersey of Sid Fernandez. Not high on a lot of collector's want lists, but, for me, it was quite the find.

Best moment in 2005 (not part of your post, but mentioned here personally) was becoming a dad for the first time and welcoming my daughter to the world in July.

I will take into 2006 a move to Hawaii in May and a continued interest in this forum.

Happy New Year, fellow Forum members!

Best Pickup:

2 things

*Pre-1930s Rogers Hornsby game used Hanna Batrite bat = under $6,000

*1914-1915 Ty cobb 40k bat, with ALL his specs (removed cork with vintage spaced apart black tape, cleat marks low on barrel, Wide-Grain...found in barn few miles from where Cobb played barnstorming ball in the 194-16 range) $6,000 and change)

I also learned that dealing with the best authenticators in the bus. proves itself, time and time again....

What did you learn in 2005?
After 20-some years of collecting and research, I've continued to reinforce my belief in the premise that the only thing that I know is that there's so much more that I need to know.

What mistakes did you make this year?
The one that got away... Still reeling from seller's remorse after letting a prized treasure go. Tried to get it back a few weeks after the sale to no avail. I'll regret it until it can be replaced (and possible even after that).

What piece did you add to your collection that you're happiest about?
A 1978-'79 era Broncos jersey of "Orange Crush" LB (and current ESPN analyst) Tom Jackson. Great piece, but had to pay way TOO much for it!

What other things will you take with you into 2006?
Continuing hope that as our hobby matures, some of the less savory developments/elements fall by the wayside, leaving us with a hobby that is understood by the sports communities, prosperous for the business element, and enjoyable for the collectors.

Wishing a Happy New Year To One and All!

What did you learn in 2005?

Prices of current player memoribillia are overpriced!

What mistakes did you make this year?

Letting go my 89 Gary Carter Road jersey in the last Mastronet auction for nothing.

What was your best bargain?

Mike Hampton 2000 World Series bat on ebay $75

What piece did you add to your collection that you're happiest about?

Rick Anderson and Randy Niemann GU bats to complete my 86 Mets GU bat collection

What other things will you take with you into 2006

I'm going to continute to avoid current player memoriabillia and staying with the older stuff.

This has been an interesting collecting year for me. I've enjoyed the forum very much and believe it has added to a renewed interest in the game used part of the hobby for me.

Biggest mistake:
NOT putting in a bid on David's Gary Carter jersey in Mastronet's auction before leaving the country for 2 weeks. I couldn't believe the final price when I got home, sorry David!

I'm not sure of any real bargains but my favorite acquisitions were:
Rookie era Gary Carter H&B bat and 1979-80 Gary Carter Adirondack bat both from Carter/Mets collector David Louie.
Michael Cooper and Vlade Divac Lakers warmup jackets

Goals or plans for 2006:
Just stay a bit more focused and try not to be spontaneous. Over the last few years I've bought too many items that I lost interest in before they even got to my house in the mail!
