It's definitely a Strawberry model bat, and the signature is exactly as expected. Just not sure what the year of the bat can be based on the info you provided. His inscription of being the "83 rookie of the year" doesn't mean that the bat is from that year.

You should post other photos showing the knob/end of barrel, handle, back side of barrel, center brand, etc.

Also, Strawberry mostly used Rawlings bats, not LS.

You might be looking at a rookie era bat. Can you measure the centerbrand for me fro right to left in inches? This can determine year.

As far as game use... I cannot read any knob markings, and don't know what the white substance is that is on the knob. I would have expected to see a magic marker 18 written and nothing more. I am unable to see the rest of the barrel for actual use, and also the tape job is not as expected for a Strawberry bat (I have only seen tape used on a couple of his bats, much later in his career, and applied differently).

Based on the larger oval size this bat is definitely an 80-83 Era bat.

Possibly a rookie era bat IMHO.
