METS 1974 shirt worn in 1976?

This is the first I've ever seen for the Mets. Offered is a 1974 tagged jersey that the seller claims was worn in 1976. Any Mets collectors care to shed some light on this? Was this a common practice?

I had the same questions about it when it popped up in the AMI auction. 1974 tagging with a 1976 bicentennial patch. Without the jersey in front of me, I really have no idea what I am looking at. Provenance from Lou Lampson without any other documentation doesn't really help me either.

It appears that the patch is the only means for the original seller to 'guess' that 2 different players from different years both wore this jersey. It's plausible given that they were basically the same size (per baseball almanac). I'd question what happened to the jersey after the 74 season, and whether or not it was recycled at all. Also, were any of the numbers or was the nameplate changed? Could the patch have been added later (is the patch "newer" than the rest of the jersey)?

Anyone know what the '43' on the strip tag in the collar means? Size?

And... the AMI text is very confusing --
Ver batim, they state:
1. Also Worn by Ken Sanders in '76 (leading you to believe that it WAS WORN)
2. The jersey may be linked to Sanders because it contains a National League Centennial patch (leading you to believe that there is some chance that it COULD HAVE BEEN WORN)

I was communicating with uniform expert Dave Miedema and he brought up a great point about this jersey. Dave noted:

Your scenario regarding the 1974/76 Mets home jersey is possible...as the style didn't change in that span. What would be key to determine true additional usage (as opposed to someone just sticking the NL 100 patch on the right sleeve) would be a careful examination of the left sleeve, as the Mets wore a memoriam band (Joan Payson + Casey Stengel) in '76. The band isn't visible, so one would have to look for a stitch imprint, loose threads, etc. near the tip of the left sleeve to determine whether the jersey did indeed get additional use in 1976.

Lampson and the current seller make no mention of any outline or threads being present. Then again, did Lamspon even bother to look? I have emialed the seller to find out.

Again, where is the proof that this was worn past the original 1974 season?

The seller indicated that there is indeed pin holes where the band once was sewn. Interesting to note that Lampson/American Memorabila never made any mention of this in thier LOA or auction listing.
