it bears a rawlings tag from 1985-1987. it's a "rare" (for those days) size 54 though. i wonder if rawlings didn't have any 1988-1989 style tags with a size 54 around so they used an old tag? thoughts? perhaps this might indicate that rawlings occasionally used older, "retired" tags as a last resort?

mayberry was a big guy but i don't think even cecil fielder took a 54 in the early 90s. canseco was wearing a 46/48 in those days.

Hi,
You are probably right about the Rawlings tag being used out of necessity. This is one huge jersey! It measures 28.5 inches arm pit to arm pit and 37 inches from the top of the collar to the bottom of the back tail. I don't think Rawlings would have sold baseball jerseys that big except to teams during that time period. It shows pretty good use with even wash wear, is all original and I am as confident as I can be without having seen him wear it that it is Mayberry's game used 1989 Royals coaches jersey.

Guys,

I have a question about an KC Road jersey I own of Ed Hearn. Seeing the Mayberry jersey triggered my question because Ed wore no 7 for the Royals in 1987.

If you look at the Mayberry jersey and the Hearn jersey you can see that the no. 7 on the back is different on each jersey.

Any ideas why the numbers are different. Were different styles used for 87 verse the other years?

Thanks for any input.

David

david,

your royals hearn is incorrectly lettered and numbered. the nob should be arched. (see kim's mayberry). the numbers on the front and back had serifs.

most of the royals jerseys i've seen from the late 80s/1991 have restored nobs. many of the restorations were done incorrectly. in my experience, it's rare to find one with an original nob.

serifs on the "1":

Thanks for pointing this out Rudy. One other thing to notice is the size of the blue and white stripe at the end of the sleeves. I noticed from viewing the 88 Royals year book the stripes are different on players jerseys
