Buy at GFC for $1074.

http://www.greyflannelauctions.com/showdetail.cfm?Lot=229&Search=erving

Sell at American Memorabilia for $3252.

http://www.americanmemorabilia.com/Auction_Item.asp?Auction_ID=34286

The GFC price seemed a little low, while the AM price seems very high.

If I could only click on the bid history, like on eBay :)

This jersey was bought on ebay in the range of $500. The original seller had listed it many times before finally getting someone to bite. Not a bad flip either.

Intrigued by these "flips," I searched the American Memorabilia site.

Seems some auction items closed at prices that are exceedingly high.

For example, just yesterday (2-8-07), a "signed game used miguel cabrera bat" sold for $1758. Almost identical bats are currently available (from Rich Altman's Hollywood Collectibles) for $700. A quick ebay or google search would have shown this.

http://www.americanmemorabilia.com/Auctions.asp?aucsearch=miguel+cabrera+bat&AucListType=closed&TitleDesc=0&period=&tfm_orderby=&tfm_order=

Who is doing this bidding?

Is this evidence of an uninformed buyer, or might this be an artificially high price?

I know that in any given auction, anything can happen, but...

Anyone have any thoughts?

Seeing I only watch Dr. J. stuff, that's all I can comment on.

The GFC ending price seemed low. But it was just a few weeks before Xmas (pockets a little empty) and I thought the personalized auto probably didn't help.

Often these shoes will go in the $1200-1800 range.

I was surprised to see how high the AB Doc shoes went for. Maybe two bidders were simply going head to head. We'll never know.

How about this. I had purchased this sweater for $60 off ebay. Found the photo of Jack in a similar colored sweater, and while thinning out my collection, decided to relist on ebay. I had a hard time getting someone to bite at $100 or $150 (even with the letter and photo). Within 6 months, I see this auction.

I guess I just should have had Lou authenticate it prior to me selling.

I used to own this 1965 Cubs flannel that was recycled by the Lodi Crushers of the California League. I sold it on eBay for $675.

The jersey was then restored from "Lodi" to "Chicago" and consigned to American Memorabilia. It sold for $746 (not much of a profit considering the price to restore, and the AMI fee.)

The jersey is now at Mastro's current auction...

It is a nice jersey, but I think it should've stayed "LODI"...A California League relic.

(Note: this matter was briefly mentioned in a thread last august:

http://www.gameuseduniverse.com/vb_forum/showthread.php?t=3981&highlight=news+bears

but I want to elaborate, because I had not yet joined GUU, and I never got to get this off my chest.)

My "Bad News Bears" story regarding American Memorabilia:

This is old dirt, but before I even knew of Game Used Universe, I saw a "Bad News Bears Movie-Worn Jersey" up for auction on Ebay last summer. I am a huge fan of the original film, and wanting to bid, I did some research and found that this item sold a few months prior to the Ebay auction at American Memorabilia:

http://www.americanmemorabilia.com/Auction_Item.asp?Auction_ID=26468

(the Ebay listing has since expired, but the jersey sold last summer ('06) sometime)

Just a side note: In the same auction, American Memorabilia also sold another Bad News Bears jersey, "worn by tatum o' neal" (the character Amanda) from the original film. This jersey was purchased by the same person who then re-sold it on Ebay a few months later.

Problem was: the most basic research led me to believe the jerseys were fakes. Not even close to the jerseys used in the movie. A simple viewing of the movie and image search clearly shows that in no way do the jerseys match. Seam and patch lines of the letters and trim were WAY OFF. Further, using common sense, the jerseys just looked so shiny white and new. I concluded that there was only a slight chance that they were wardrobe department back-ups that were never worn. But they were sold as "worn" not "issued." Lastly, I couldn't find any information anywhere about "Hollywood Movie Props" that issued a LOA. (I think the LOA may have been from "Hollywood Prop Supply" out of Meridian, Mississippi. All I recall about the letter is that it was notarized by a public notary. whoopee-doo!) Also, the jerseys were stamped "costume collection." They looked like things you would rent at a halloween costume store.

Anyway, after the ebay auction ended, I contacted the winning bidders to caution them about the jerseys, and both bidders retracted their bids. The Bad News Bears Jerseys were then re-listed, and eventually sold in an auction where bidders identities were kept private.

I was disappointed on three levels: first, because I believed the jerseys were fake, so i obviously could not bid. Secondly, not having heard of "american memorabilia" at the time, I swore I would never bid on any of their items ever again. And lastly, my heart went out to the buyer of these seemingly fake items.

Shame on American Memorabilia for not taking the simple and appropriate measures to verify this Movie Prop. Some simple homework on their part would have prevented this mess from ever happening.

Maybe this was an honest mistake. I do not know much about the company "American Memorabilia." But I think greed got in the way of doing the right thing. Greed and/or carelessness. For a company that claims to sell big ticket items, it should do a much better job with the smaller stuff.

By the way, if anyone ever comes across any REAL props from the ORIGINAL Bad News Bears film, let me know.

The Bears jersey in no way, shape or form could have been used by Kelly Leak in the original, "The Bad News Bears" (many reasons, letter placement, piping, etc.). I then researched the sequal, "The Bad News Bears in Breaking Training". Tatum O'Neal was not in this production. The studio costumer I.D. is the same for both jerseys (Leak and O'Neal's character). Number placement on the AMI Leak is wrong. Joined with the bogus AMI Tatum O'Neal(that never existed in the sequal) you can see the red flags. Was the seller greedy or mis-informed? America may never know...
