View Full Version : Thoughts on value of game used ball from Ichiro's 3000 hit game at Coors Field?

This was a conversation I've had recently with some friends who were all at the game and I'm curious on the groups opinions on the topic?

A ball not hit or pitched to Ichiro. Any ball he hit into play was immediately thrown back to the dugout and its my understanding that those all went to MLB, HOF & Ichiro.

Only one hologrammed ball was sold in a public manner so far and it was done via auction at the game the next day in Colorado via the MLB ballpark app. As a result, it had very limited visibility and went for about $260 which I'd guess is way below market value. That ball was resold for $1250 via private sale to a collector.

Now two more balls are being sold by the Rockies via MLB Auctions with starting bids of $500 each.

With those details stated, what do you guys think?

Just for the sake of transparency, I'm the one who sold the ball, so this is not for any kind of self promotion. I'm curious on all your opinions on the state of the market. I originally got it to keep since I was at the game, but I had just purchased a pretty expensive bat from one of my favorite players and this ended up paying for it, so I let it go.

Looking forward to opinions on this one...

If your ball was never hit by ichiro I'd say u made a killing. It's almost like buying a bat that was held by a team mate during same game.

I own Ichiro actual hits 3005 and 3006, and paid just over the amount listed about for one "used" in the 3000 game. Id say at 1200+ you made out like a bandit!

Hey if you can take advantage and make a killing always seize the opportunity there is always someone who has there own value that may be your profit

I don't see the attraction of a random ball from a personal milestone game.

If I had known people were buying random objects from The game I would have picked up all the hot dog wrappers. I wonder how much an ichiro 3000 hit game day wrapper is worth

At least $200.

By this time next year no one will give a care about Ichiros 3000th hit. As Janes Addiction says "Cash in now, honey!"

$900 just for balls used in that game? Crazy!
The Reds auctioned actual hit 3,007 for $1500 that ended last night, and didn't receive a bid! It tied him with Al Kaline for 28th overall

Anything associated with 3,000 usually in the past holds a premium over any other baseballs. Robin Yount's 3,000 hit sold for 34,000$, all other milestone baseballs of his sold between 900-1300 (500th 2B, 1,000 RBI, 2,000 hit, ect)

there were TONS of ziplock bags purportedly containing "air from kobe bryant's final game" on ebay right after the game, and people were buying them.

The Reds offered it to their customers for, wait for it...$3,007, haha! I passed and see that it didn't even sell for half as much, as expected.

It sold (not at auction) and will be reunited with 3,005 and 3,006! ;)
