Just wanted to give people a heads up about the Joe Jackson bat currently on ebay:

Item #331908981092 (http://www.ebay.com/itm/Baseball-History-Bat-signed-Shoeless-Joe-Jackson-WWI-Fund-Raiser-125-Slugger-35-/331908981092?hash=item4d47512164:g:6Z4AAOSw0kNXhiY R)

While it looks like it may be a legit Jackson bat, to me it looks like a YMCA bat that was sent over to Europe during WWI as part of a moral booster for the troops.

I would guess that the YMCA brand has been sanded off, along with sanding down some of the center brand itself so as to keep the bat's dimensions consistent (thus the shallow center brand and loss of brand on the Left). The bat was then refinished to most likely hide the fact that it was sanded down.

This, on top of the fact that the bat was found in Germany, makes me think that it's the YMCA variation, and never even came close to being in the hands of Shoeless Joe.

Just my two cents.

If you read the fine print.
They say they do not guarantee it was ever usrd by Jackson. Did they update the desciption to add this?

Thanks for the info Mark. I think Mark is just letting us all know what the bat probably is and is not saying the ad is fraudulent in any way. Clearly the seller isn't sure what he has or doesn't seem to. I appreciate the insight.

I'm not saying that the seller is trying to mislead anybody. They do in fact use the word WWI Fund Raiser in their description:

Baseball History Bat signed Shoeless Joe Jackson WWI Fund Raiser 125 Slugger 35"

But, they do write in their description:
we can not guarantee that Joe Jackson played this bat
but we can not exclude it either

I'm just trying to give my fellow GUU members a heads up.

So was the end price correct?

So it ended up going for $3.5k which seems on par with what they've gone for over the last couple of years ($3.3k at SCP in '15 and $2.3k at Goldin in '14). But seems like a bit high to me considering it looks like it's purposely been doctored.
