Here are a few pics of my small game hit ball collection. Please feel free to post your pics as well. I know people think actual balls are kind of boring and all look the same, but I love seeing whats out there.
Thanks

My Jeter post 3K Hit balls. All singles except the double. The Wrigley logo ball was hit in his last ever series at Wrigley Field, and the double was hit on Fathers day of his last career game at Oakland.

The bulk of my collection is minor and foreign leagues, but I do have some MLB baseballs. You can see them here:

Posted is a ball from a highly hyped prospect who was in baseball for only one year (last year today, I believe) despite all the attention he received. He was traded several times and tried out for multiple positions. With this ball he struck out for the Cubs in one of only two at-bats in his career.

I guess he decided he was more suited to a career in acting.

I was fortunate to get the last hit of Bryce Harper's record setting 2015 season which was a double at CitiField on October 4 2015 in the 9th inning of the last game.

It gave him the OBP crown, and helped his OPS. He fell short in the last few days of the season on the Batting Average crown and of course won the unanimous MVP.

I hope to get the clubhouse manager to add the stats to the ball like he does with significant baseballs.

Good to see you found a way to display baseballs that tell their story. You have come along way since the "reason we don't prefer collecting baseballs" thread. Glad to see you have gotten onboard and enjoy it.

I agree, Swoboda4 you have come along way since that particular thread. I'm glad to see that you have changed your tune on collecting the actual ball from the baseball game. You have some very nice balls there that anyone would love to have in their collection. Those balls are the heart and soul of the game and I believe they are the most important thing in the game. After all if there were no baseball there would be no baseball game. My very first GU item was a ball and I only dreamed of expanding my collection from there. Ill post some of my favorite balls on here sometime soon.

Lakeerie92 and TBM, I apologize. I'm amazed. And I'm watching AT BAT to know and describe more about what a ball went through before it went out of play. MLB's last play description isn't enough. I'm describing 4x's more what happened then what they are. Syndergaard's ball wouldn't be 99 mph unless I watched the pitch before....

I know. Here's one more. You know you may have a collecting problem when you find stuff you forgot you bought.
But here's my example again; the MLB Authentication correctly states this baseball was thrown by Niese with Bourn hitting a single and Prado hitting a triple. Good enough for any game used baseball. But I went to MLB At Bat and found the game wasn't available (2011) but the Gameday was, and the inning by inning breakdown revealed the ball was also thrown by Thole to Justin Turner who tagged Bourn out in an attempt to steal second. I'm glad I found that out. I guess what's interesting about collecting baseballs, which I didn't realize, is that you can find out additional things that happened to the ball that wasn't listed (Eg: Did Jeter touch the ball? Did Syndergaard throw it 100mph? Is the fly out baseball caught by an all-star?). You find this out before the sale or auction's end and bid accordingly. So if one of Syndergaard's pitched baseballs are researched and found to have been thrown 100mph, I believe it to be worth more and the effort to get it.

I have noticed a lot of strike out balls become labeled as fouls to the screen or pitches in the dirt to the following batter.

I can definitely attest to the fact that K baseballs are much harder to get than hits. Pitchers fairly commonly throw hits out of play because they don't want to use that baseball anymore. I talked to Andrew Cashner about it and joked with him that he should throw out all of the strike out baseballs and he said that I was crazy, those are the best baseballs and they want to keep using them. Third out K's get thrown in the stands by the catcher normally so the authenticators really have to be on their game to get strike out baseballs by following them through multiple at bats.

That's why researching a game used ball beyond the initial description will more often than not, reveal a lot more. Re:The Andrelton Simmons triple above was used in a strikeout the batter before, pitched at one point 99 mph, and was played by Stanton in the field(all not mention in the MLB authentication).

A couple questions...

I noticed none of the pictured hit balls are signed? Any particular reason?

I have a Paul Konerko hit ball. I want to have it inscribed "Hit # 2,204." Would you also add an "RBI # 1,351" inscription?

If you are going to have it signed and inscribed then I would definitely have them add the stats whether it be hits, RBIs or both.

I don't get baseballs signed because I don't care for signatures. The only items I have signed are only because they came that way with the exception of one item. I have never gotten onboard with signed items. Having an item that was used is great, I never saw value in having them write on it. I realize I am definitely in the minority on that one.

I agree, for my benefit I have found several Chris Sale Strike out balls. I have even picked up one from his 1 hitter on mothers day in 12' or 13' cant remember the year I will have to look. It was actually labeled pitch in the dirt and the only pitch in the dirt was for strike 3. You could see on mlb tv that the catcher flipped it to the ball boy and got a new ball. I will write down who fouled it back and inning ect when I go to a game so I can try and pick it up later. I found a few last year from his 15K game against the cubs and one was a Bryant K.

Nothing too fancy. I found this while going through some of my items in storage and having previously browsed this thread thought I'd share. I've always enjoyed WBC game used items and have quite a few in my collection.

This is Team Netherlands first hit of the 2013 WBC. Which happened to be a double by Andruw Jones.

I had my 15-yr old son pick out a game used/issued hat & ball in a bag at Target Field last night. Came with a game issued hat from Jose Martinez and a ball that had some awesome game use. I could tell it was more than just a foul ball back to the screen or a pitch in the dirt. When we got to our seats we looked up the hologram and it was an Albert Pujols single and then he scored on a triple by Howie Kendrick with the same ball. In doing additional research during the delay, we found out that this was actually Pujols' career hit 2,499. He would later add 2,500 in the same game. Not a bad pick up for $49.99.

Really excited about this add! While in Toronto this weekend I found a Jonathan Schoop single from Baltimore that he hit all the way back in 2014. Toronto had these as Dustin McGowan's first win since 2008, but for me as a Schoop and O's fan it has far greater significance. The ball was hit on April 11, 2014 for Schoop's 12th career hit. This has to be one of the earliest authenticated hits of his in existence and is far earlier than my previous one which was his 28th hit. Price was less than what the O's are currently charging for his singles, and it has the O's 60th Anniversary logo on the ball to boot. Great add that I was happy to rescue from Canada and bring back home where it belongs!

The three hits that were sold by the Orioles was on August 19th.
I own Bregman's RBI Double hit in the Top of the 2nd which was his 19th Hit / 6th Double / 9th RBI
Oriolesfan29 owns Bregman's RBI Single hit in the Top of the 4th which was his 20th Hit / 10th RBI

I'm not interested in them, just curious, but where do you get these Trout homerun balls from?

Mainly networking. I have a couple guys that have a bunch of connections and basically give me first shot at stuff before it hits the market.
Thanks

My two best GU hit baseballs are Francisco Lindor's 1st career triple and Jim Thome's final career hit baseball.

Lindor's 1st career triple:

84897

Thome's final career hit:

84898

Enjoy!

Chase Utley lead-off home run at Coors Field on 8/31/2016, #248 in his career. Green stripe on the back from where it landed on outfield wall, and fell lazily into the right-center field garden.

Very good about the green stripe.

Thanks, I was very fortunate to watch this in-person and purchase the ball about 2 hours later. It hit squarely on the top of the wall, about 3 inches long enough to be a home run.

All the more that it is now in the right hands. Excellent.

This ball was hit by Royals #2 prospect Hunter Dozier in his fourth MLB game on September 17, 2016 for his second career hit and his first career RBI. It was left in play and was hit by Jarrod Dyson for his 342 career hit. Both hits were singles.

Weird story about this ball was that it started out as Hunter Dozier's 3rd career hit and 2nd career RBI but a scoring change in the previous days game, 09/16/2016, changed Doziers second career hit to a "reached on error" erasing both the hit and RBI from that game and this one filled the void.

Hunter finished the 2016 season with four hits and one RBI.

I actually just purchased the bat he used to hit that ball last weekend. It was a pretty cool find once I found out he used it for his 2nd career hit and first RBI.

Ahhh man.... I've started searching for that bat. Was going to head to KC to see if I could track it down along with some others I'd like to have. Guess I don't have to search for it anymore.

Could you post some pics of it? Maybe in the Royals thread.

I know it gets said a lot but, if you ever want to sell keep me in mind.

I kind of lucked into it actually. We were in KC helping my brother move and I always try and go to GU stores of teams that I am near. The Royals were doing their pick a seat event for STH and just so happened that their authentics manager was there for appointments. I took a look around at the different bats and something told me to get this Hunter Dozier one. I know hes a top prospect and he only had a few games played in 2016. They had two of his, one broke on the 29th and one on the 17th, which is the one I picked up because it was his fourth game. So if you go there they may still have that one. Its the same style bat from the one he used the 17th just as an FYI.

I went back to the hotel that night and started doing some digging through getty and ap images and MLB.tv hoping that it might be from his MLB debut or first hit, but it doesn't appear to be from either. His MLB debut he used an Old Hickory and while the style of the bat from his first hit matches the Marucci I picked up, the markings are quiet there. I am assuming he probably kept both bats or someone else snatched them up. Then I took a look and saw that he clearly used this one for hit #2 and RBI #1 as the markings on the bat are exact. Made me pretty excited.

I will post pictures later tonight of it in the Royals thread. If I decide to sell I will let you know!

That's a great story. I love finding gems like that. Glad it found its way into the hands of a collector that did due dillegence to discover it's hidden value. It's near impossible to get anything earlier career than the bat he used for his second hit and first RBI. At this moment Hunter Dozier is the Royals #1 prospect since Raul Mondesi is no longer eligible to be ranked as a prospect. Hope he has a long successful career. Can't wait to see your pics.

Here is my best ball of the 2017 season so far. It’s a ball that was almost a Grand Slam but ended up being hit for 2 doubles and 4 RBIs and being the game winning hit.

On April 28 the Twins were playing the Royals at Kauffman Stadium when Miguel Sano came up to bat in the top of the 8th with the bases loaded against Joakim Soria in a game the Royals lead 4-2. Sano fouled off a pitch from Soria that struck the home plate umpire CB Bucknor on the facemask and was knocked out of the game. The game was on hold for six minutes as Bucknor was evaluated and assisted off the field and was replaced by one of the other umpires. The rest of the game was played being short by one umpire.

When the game resumed Sano crushed the first pitch from Soria, a hanging curveball, to left-center field. The ball hit the very top front corner of the outfield wall, bounced straight up and back onto the field of play. Sano ended up with a double (his 200th career hit and 45th career double) and 2 RBIs (138th career) while narrowly missing a Grand Slam. In fact the Twins challenged the call thinking that it should have been a Grand Slam but the call on the field was upheld. The ball remained in play and was pitched to Joe Mauer with runners on second and third and the score tied 4-4. Mauer hit Soria’s second pitch, another hanging curveball, down the right field line just staying fair. Mauer ended up with a double (his 1844th career hit and 369th career double) and 2 RBIs (812th career). It would be the game winning hit.

Awesome baseballs! I've been away for a bit and haven't purchased much. Something related to one of my best finds reminded me of the site and so I thought I'd stop in and see what's happening.

My best find is a game used hit baseball. It was a baseball that was hit for Jim Thome's final career hit. It was with the Orioles against the Red Sox in his final year.

I don't think I'll hold on to it forever. May wait until he gets elected into the HOF before I even think about selling. But maybe I'll keep it?

Michael Brantley's 200th career double. Brantley doubled off of Joe Musgrove on May 21, 2017 at Minute Maid Park. The Indians would go on to defeat the Astros 8-6.

Picked up a final out game used ball from Mickey Mantle's 3rd career game. In the last Leland's auction I picked up a set of eight hand-painted game used baseballs from the collection of former MLB pitcher Sandy Consuegra. I collect George Sosnak balls so this set really intrigued me. All of the balls are last outs from Consuegra wins, mostly from 1954 and 1955 from his days with the White Sox.

The one unpainted ball just has the line score and rosters. That trophy ball is definitely from the 4/20/51 game (game 1) between the Senators and Yankees, which just so happened to be Mantle's 3rd career game. The ball is again likely from the final out, which was a flyball off the bat of Yogi Berra. But DiMaggio and Mantle batted before Yogi (Mantle hit his first career triple), so I guess it's remotely possible that the ball was used in play prior to the final out. Either way, it's a ball from Mantle's 3rd career game, first road game.

I would like to thank Leland's for not properly researching their items and allowing collectors to find gems like this. If anyone has video or a pitch-by-pitch of this game please let me know.

I was at the Yankees @ Royals game on Sunday May 10, 2018 and picked up my traditional game ball. It was labeled as as an Aaron Judge ground out to SS and that was the price I paid for it. I checked the Authentication a week later to find out I had gotten a hidden gem. It was also a Giancarlo Stanton double, his 10th of the year. It was his 1005 career hit. Royals Authentics was selling a Stanton single for $350 which is way more than I paid for this ball so I figured I came out good. Even photo matched it. In the picture is Whit Merrifield at second with the ball bouncing out of his glove on the throw from LF Alex Gordon. Needless to say I was happy.

With any balls, especially from the minors or college, one should always keep a record of who hit or pitched it, etc. One never knows what the future might bring for the players involved. For example, this year nine different alumni from the South Carolina gamecocks have appeared in one or more MLB games, but only two of them (Justin Smoak and Sam Dyson) were considered MLB prospects when they entered college. The other seven are: Jackie Bradley, Jr.; Grayson Greiner; Whit Merrifield; Steve Pearce; Christian Walker; Tyler Webb; and Lonnie Chisenhall (only briefly a gamecock before transferring).

Most of never thought some of these guys would make MLB, because the scouts weren't taking them seriously though they were stars here. Bradley was ignored and undrafted until the 2010 College World Series (the end of his sophomore season), though we gamecock fans regularly saw him make many of those great CF plays he now makes for the Red Sox. Merrifield was the same super-utility guy and clutch hitter for the gamecocks that the Royals now see, though he languished for nine years in their minor leagues! Any gamecock fan could've told the Royals what they were missing. And the same is true of many visiting players.

So anybody who got an item connected with these guys in college would be gratified at how much that item would come to mean! A simple index card or word processor is all that's needed to keep a note that may pay off about the balls, etc. you may get. You never know what the future may bring!

Coxfan, I fully agree. I document every ball I get. Here is on from 2017 AAA game I was at. I was standing out by the Omaha Storm Chasers bullpen when Jorge Soler clubbed a ground rule double. It landed between the bullpen wall and a fence. I had to reach through the fence to grab the ball and attemp to hold onto it so it was not pryed out of my hands by everyone else there. Once others left I managed to get it out from under the fence. My hands took a beating getting that ball but it was well worth it since it was my first ground rule double ball and one of the very few balls I’ve been fortunate enough to get in game.

My new favorite hit baseball. Ryan O’Hearn’s second career HR, which is also his 4th career hit, and his 4th & 5th career RBIs all in one ball. It was part of his 3 RBI game where he drove in all 3 runs on 8/13/18 vs The Blue Jays to give the Royals a 3-1 win. Last RBI was a bases loaded walk. It even has the red smudge where it hit the red State Farm wall in the visitors bull pen. He is the first Royals player and just the11th MLB player in history to have 7 home runs and 19 RBIs in first 21 MLB games. He then went on to have his first multi home run game giving him 9 home runs and 22 RBIs in his first 24 MLB games.
