I was going through my jersey stuff and found a 2004 World Series under jersey that I had bought off eBay a few years ago for like 10$. I only now looked at the tag and saw it was numbered 41. I saw Molina wore one of these in game 1 and was wondering did they make these retail or only for players?

I should clarify , when I bought it I wasn't into the GUU aspect of jerseys I was collecting old russell and rawlings MLB jerseys trying to get home and away from each team. I soon realized it would be smart to get an under jersey I could wear with many of them so I sought out non team specific under jerseys and found this. So I prob saw the number but thought nothing of it. Nowadays I'm on almanac site checking everything hoping to strike it big.

First thought...someone's phone is about to die.

Second thought...I have never seen a retail under shirt for the World Series for any year. Has that ever been done?

Answered my own question. It seems like years ago they did, but lately they haven't. Like you I couldn't find any information specifically on 2004.

Haha I'm known for my cell battery being crappy :)

Yeah exactly! When I bought it I didn't think twice and hung it on my rack but after joining this site and learning more I rediscovered it but can't even remember the seller I bought it from....maybe I could search my email history...can anyone find any other under shirts like this so I can compare if the writing matches the other numbered shirts? I think it'll be hard to photo match , not sure where to go from here...

Bahaha found it , I bout it in December 2014 , seller looks like they sell random stuff , nothing game used so they wouldn't have known to check collar.

Have you tried contacting the seller? Maybe they are a thrift shop reseller. Game used stuff has been known to somehow end up at thrift shops. Heck back then maybe in those days teams donated undershirts like that.

I hope you can find out it was at least used by someone. I have somewhat of a hard time believing if it was faked that it would find its way into the hands of someone trying to selling it for less than $8.

The seller looks like a thrift store deal, that's what's giving me hope is I didn't buy it from someone pointing at the tag and possibly faking it, I bought it for pennies from someone who has no clue about jerseys. Ill send the seller an email tonight.

Thanks for the fast reply! Can I ask what city you would have bought it in? It s from either the Red Sox or cardinals and I m leaving towards St Louis due to number on tagging. Are you near St. Louis?

Here's the email before that one
Dear juicyfruit66,

Hi - I am just an "average Joe" that collects sports gear. It was probably bought at a consignment shop. I have been consolidating items by selling on eBay. I will be happy to let you know if I come across anything else. Thanks!

Both teams used Florida (cards used Jupiter) so I'm still good ....thank god. Boston didn't even have a #41 anyways

I signed up and looked, seller states game used and came from airing training facility so it jives with the same logic as to where mine may have come from. The tag on mine is the authentic kind where this one has the crappier looking version, still made in USA though. It makes sense cause I think lasorda wore this kind in game one while Molina wore mine . So so far we've established that they weren't retail I guess.

I looked at some Getty pics from game 1 again and lasorda isn't wearing this one he's wearing his old one. The rest of the players seem to be wearing the one I own.

If somehow I can pin it down to being molina's shirt from game 1 2004 World Series worn in Boston , any idea of the value?
