Tim Wallach early era knob numbers

Anyone ever see a Wallach with a tiny 29 written in this font? It doesn't match up with his other bats I own but was wondering if its because its from his younger years? Either that or he didn't write it.

To me it's like whoever wrote it didn't want to obstruct the numbers, which most players wouldn't care about
