I bought this jersey from BPH32 (Ballpark heroes) a few years back, and wish to part with it, at this time. It is a Majestic made jersey and comes with 1 authenticity letter from ballpark heroes and 1 from Dick Dobbins (famed A's/Giants collector). Price 400.00 but will listen to reasonable offers mook03005@gmail.com

Nice item. While Dobbins' LOA is dated for 1993, the jersey is from c. 1987-89, as Rawlings 1987-91 BP jerseys would have a sleeve logo, and Majestic (who appears to be the manufacturer of this item) began adding a sleeve logo in 1990.

Thankyou Dave,

I was actually looking over the Henderson guide and most of the yellow BP Majestics from 87-91 appear to also come in mesh. So there is Majestic made jerseys from 87-89 that also come in a a solid fabric. very cool didn't know that thanks

Mark,

There are a few knowns, unknowns and assumptions about these jerseys. Starting with what I know, there were 5 of these jerseys that came to market in the past year that came from Dick Dobbins in the same lot:

1. Mark McGwire, Majestic knit fabric, Green
2. Jose Canseco, Majestic knit fabric, Yellow
3. Rickey Henderson, Majestic knit fabric, Yellow
4. Tony LaRussa, Majestic knit fabric, Yellow
5. Mark McGwire, Majestic knit fabric, Yellow

The first 4 jerseys were purchased from Dick Dobbins by a single buyer, Paul, on December 9, 1992. Your jersey was sold to Rick on January 10, 1993. Paul has owned the first 4 jerseys since 1992 until he sold them this year, which is when I purchased the Canseco jersey. The Henderson made its way into the last Goldin Auction (Goldin Auction Jersey (http://goldinauctions.com/1989_Rickey_Henderson_Game_Used_Oakland_A_s_Yellow-LOT16915.aspx)) where the Dobbins COA was discarded.

Dick’s COA clearly states that these jerseys were “acquired, as part of the whole roster, from the Phoenix Spring Training site.” So at a minimum, I think it is a fair assumption that these were worn in Spring Training of 1992 based on when and where they were sourced from.

We do know that these could have been worn as BP jerseys between 1986-1991, but I have seen 5 different variations of this yellow jersey in BP and Spring Training photos during that time period:

1. Majestic mesh
2. Majestic knit
3. Majestic knit w/ sleeve logo
4. Rawlings mesh
5. Rawlings knit

I do not believe that any of the 5 types above were exclusive during a season, as I have seen photos of multiple players together where one is wearing a mesh and one a knit. I have also seen photos where one jersey had a Rawlings logo and one did not, so clearly there was a mix in the clubhouse. It would simply make sense that players had both a mesh and knit in their locker to choose from, and the team had a mix of Rawlings and Majestic.

I have seen photos that conclusively show that:

- In 86, 88 and 89, yellow Majestic knit jerseys were worn;
- In 87 and 89, yellow Rawlings mesh and knit were worn;
- In 91 and 92, yellow both Rawlings and Majestic mesh and knit (both with sleeve logo).

Without knowing the exact habits of the Oakland equipment manager, I do know of other teams that have recycled previous year(s) BP jerseys into spring training jerseys, sometimes for multiple years. I certainly believe they were the BP jerseys at sometime between 86-91, and then became the spring training jerseys at sometime between 87-92. Specifically attributing these jerseys to the World Championship season of 1989 is a fallacy. Although they absolutely could have been worn in 1989, it is impossible to accurately make that statement without a photo match.

I believe the Canseco jersey was game worn during the time period of 1986 to 1992, in both batting practice and spring training. I would think it would have been worn as a BP jersey in the first year of issue, which is 1986, so I feel comfortable making that statement. Fortunately Jose was with the team that entire period, so I do not have any concerns about being worn by someone else. The jersey has a ton of use, so it was clearly used for several years.

Wes:

Some good information there. However, lack of a sleeve logo is not an option of 1987-91 Rawlings BPs., and only an option on pre-1990 Majetic BPs. Rawlings was the contracted uniform supplier of MLB for those 5 years and Majestic was OK'd for a BP jersey deal in time for the 1990 season. Only contracted suppliers can place a manufacturer sleeve logo on a MLB jersey, game or BP. That's why 1987-91 Blue Jays, Yankees, Tigers and Red Sox homes, and Braves jerseys in those 5 years had no sleeve logos...they were all made by Wilson, and Wilson never had an official contract with MLB.
