Slow day here at work. Have you ever come across someone who thinks something related to an athlete is valuable? A few years back, Phil Wood did a Saturday morning show on WTEM in the DC area and he would often talk about his game used collection. One day someone called in and told a story where they had run into Lou Pinella during spring training in a parking lot. Pinella was smoking a cigarette and drinking a can of beer. The person approached Pinella and asked if his team was going to the world series that year. Pinella threw down the cigarette and beer can and walked off with out speaking. The caller wanted to know what the butt and can would be worth. Anyone ever experience or hear of something similar?

I don't know too much about game used folklore, but the most ridiculous things I have "seen" in relation to our hobby were these classics...

1. Lou Lampson authenticates Madonna's lace panties.

2. I recall seeing somewhere (someone help me if you have any more info) a signed Mark McGwire athletic protector for sale. I think that's taking the hobby to the extremes!

The Mac Jockstrap is from Lelands lot #847. Mac "Rookie of the Year JockStrap" It`s signed right on the sweet spot, lol. I`m a mac fan, i didnt feel like snagging the pic & posting it here.

I wonder if that piece is worth the 1530 the buyer paid? definitely unique...Bit "over the top" for me though.

I have always wondered why a "game used" U.L. Washington toothpick has never hit the memorabilia market. U.L. was discouraged to use a toothpick while playing. Many said it was a bad influence for little leaguers. The toothpick was airbrushed out of many photos from the late 70s and 80s. No, he never swallowed one.
I wouldn't want a "game used" toothpick for obvious reasons. Maybe a toothpick that was "player issued" or "game ready" would be more practical.
By the way, U.L. is his given first name...

Tom Seaver's game used toothpick sold at major auction just last year for a couple hundred bucks. I think it was Leland's, or maybe Grey Flannel.

On the subject of jockstraps and urinals, the Cardinals sold off a urinal from the player's locker room at auction last year from the Busch Stadium sale. Rumor was that a urologist purchased it. Estimate was $200 to $300 and it sold for with the buyers premium for $2,173!!!!!!!!!!

Here is the picture----I guess you put a plaque on it that says "Game Used by Ozzie Smith, Mark McGwire, Scott Rolen, Jim Edmonds & Albert Pujols"
