Looking for opinions on this Mel Ott bat

I recently picked up this Hillerich and Bradsby Mel Ott 016 model bat. It is 35" and 32 oz, and matches the one that sold on Goldin Auctions recently.

There seems to be a lot of varying opinions regarding this model being a team index or player issued. From what I understand, there was an order of 016 bats ordered by Ott but it was crossed out.

The bat is untracked, shows solid use, and is in incredible condition considering its age. Would like to hear some opinions on what you guys think I may have.

Team index. Looks like center brand C-14 in Maltas book which would be 1948-49(after Ott's career).
