Picked up a 1971 brewers game used jersey. I feel bad cause I practically stole it. Headed to Miller park now to have my contact dig up any info and possibly verify its authenticity. I don't know how to post pics from my phone otherwise I would.

as if the day couldnt get better, I take the jersey to Miller Park so my connection can authenticate it and Bud Selig is there. He walks up to me and says where in the world did I find that. Asks to look at it and smiles and said boy does this take me back. Shook my hand and said nice find, brings back great memories. Ok great story, then my guy walks up and says lets take the jersey to my office and by the way I have some helmets you might want. Pulls out these helmets and caps of my day. Great trip to the stadiumhttp://i692.photobucket.com/albums/vv285/mattsr0625/New%20House/20150429_200121_zpszebm3c78.jpg

So were the helmets free and who are they of? I have a question too about the authentication. How was it authenticated at the ball park? Is there an authenticator housed inside the park who can authenticate old game used items?

They are really nice items. I have never seen a Brewers jersey like that.

No I bought the Helmets. He is not selling them to the public yet and let me have at them first. Black helmet is Ryan Braun from the TBTC game. The others are Prince Fielder from his call up year in 05 and Ben Sheets. Sheets pitched that game and tore something in his arm. Thats where the arm troubles started for him.

And as far as authenticating the jersey, They have some records he was going to go through and was going to check with the equipment manager who has been with the team since forever. He also has in storage the original Pilots jersey that was converted over to say Brewers on it. I have been trying to get one off of him for a while now.

I dont think I will Get a LOA or anything but if they can say hey you got a legit period jersey Ill be happy.

How is this a game worn jersey? No numbers on the front and no name/size strip tag in the neckline.

That is a SWEET find!!! Great pickup and knowing what it was when the seller didnt. This is my best ever Craigslist find. I've found a Kelly gamer or two that way and ironically traded this for one.. but its the best score I've had with CL. GREAT way to find gamers from years past that people either dont know what they have, or just want to get rid of. This is the only 1994 throwback I've ever saw. I still hold out hope I stumble across another someday!!!http://i1337.photobucket.com/albums/o672/Andy_Hasseler/IMG_20121024_082505_zps72338630.jpg (http://s1337.photobucket.com/user/Andy_Hasseler/media/IMG_20121024_082505_zps72338630.jpg.html)

How??? In 1970 the first year of existance of the Brewers there was no numbers on the front or name tag on the collar. it wasnt until 71 that they added the numbers to the front. name is on the bottom front of the jersey. Its period authentic. I would post more pics but right now its in the hands of the Brewers. So far word is that it is 100% legit. Im still working on trying to get a letter from them stating so.

Once I get the jersey back from the team I will inbox you pics. The bottom name tag/stitching was cut off. thats why Im trying to have the Brewers confirm that it is indeed legit. The number on the back has a repair job done on the number. Material seems to be correct with vent holes in the arms, and proper lettering.

Your first post claims the jersey is a 1971 jersey. The only jerseys I have seen from 1971 have numbers on front and size/name collar tag.

You say the name is on the bottom of the jersey. Was there a 71 next to the name?

I initially thought it was from 71 cause that what the seller thought it was. I was informed on another board that in 71 they had the numbers on the front, then I was forwarded the link to grey flannel showing a 70s style with no numbers on the front. The bottom of the jersey is cut where the name would be. That's why I'm trying to verify that its legit. I have no intentions of selling it, I was just excited that I was able to find one. I'm no expert on old jerseys either so I do turn to others in the collecting community for advice as well.

OK cool. It's a great find, for sure. I hope they confirm the legitimacy for you.

You claim this is your "Holy Grail" find, but then say you aren't an expert on what you bought, don't really know what it is, etc? A holy grail is something you've been searching for forever. Also, the bragging about the stealing it off CL and your Brewers contact is pathetic.

Right!? Then that sneaky advertising for Mountain Dew and Dairy Queen in his pictures. Unbelievable!!

On a serious note...How do you know he hasn't been looking forever? Maybe his holy grail is an early Brewers jersey which it would be regardless?

Did you like want this jersey or something and not get it? You seem to be a little overly angry over something so little.

Southside, this post is what is pathetic. You will make no friends on this forum after 8 posts piping off like that. The guy is clearly excited about HIS Holy Grail. A Holy Grail is different for everyone.

You may want to rethink unnecessary posts like this.

I have been trying to collect every style of jerseys they have worn. Seeing as how I only have a majority of newer uniforms (mid 80's to present), my knowledge of older uniforms is very limited. So to me YES a Brewers jerseys from their 1st year in existence is a holy grail find to ME. Since I normally pay a decent amount for jerseys Im excited that I got one for dirt cheap, and one that to me is priceless. I rarely ever post here about any of my pickups like others do. And I have a rather large collection. However I thought other collectors could appreciate my story as I think everyone has a moment like I had.

As for me being pathetic its cool cause I can care less what you have to say. You seem mad bro, all your post seem to be crying about what other people do.

You were bragging that you got it for a "great price"...but now you backtrack and claim it was supposed to be $100.

Like I said, it sucks since this money is supposed to go to White Sox Charities. I dont know how some people operate by stealing like this and having that on your conscience. It must be a sickness.

Might be fun to make some calls to the White Sox. I know they keep credit card receipts.

Are you bragging about knowing people in the White Sox office? You're pathetic.

Fascinating how an interesting thread about a cool find degenerated into personal attacks.

Too bad that goes on here.

The Brewer jersey is cool. Photos make it clear what it is. Not sure why an interesting collectible thread has to be polluted with people behaving badly.
