Guys, if this is a truly legit 1998 gamer shouldn't it have the custom "straight" hemmed bottom?

Jeff knows a thing or two about Cardinals game used equipment, and thinks it's probably just a giveaway:

Other than the hem, the other curious thing is the autograph notation. Mac didn't sign "70" until after the season... so that likely rules out an in-season swap of jerseys with Tony, when Mac would have added the "STL 25" notation. I can't say with certainty -- who can? -- but I have to believe the odds are greater that this is one of the extras Mark had made to give away vs. an actual '98 gamer.

What about the 98 road in SCP. That one looks the most promising.

The number spacing is incorrect.

Yes, the numbers on the back of this jersey are way too close together. They should be the thickness of a number apart. Look at photos of Mac in '98 -- it's obvious. This is a common mistake made by forgers -- they use the template employed by the team in later years; but in '98, the numbers were much farther apart.

By "this" jersey, I mean the road. Here's a shot of Mac in a home jersey, but the spacing should be the same on the road. Compare that to the jersey at auction.

Has anyone contacted SCP with their concerns or questions?
I believe they reply to emails and calls in a quick maner and deserve a courtesy call or email before posting

Ken, I have contacted SCP about questionable jerseys in the past, but it goes in one ear and out the other. Once at the National, they had two Cardinals jerseys on display -- one good and one bad. I put them side by side and showed them what was wrong with the bad one, yet there it was in their next auction. They have never pulled a jersey that I've questioned, no matter how much evidence I present. So, I don't bother anymore.

Guess I just don't have the clout others do. The owner of Grey Flannel told me I had no credibility as he cursed me over the phone, but even he pulled some of the jerseys I questioned... before banning me from his auctions. :p

I understand your point Ken, however, in my view, since Loomis asked a valid question and the jersey(s) are being discussed on the thread, I've always felt there was a distinction between that discussion we are having and one that is started with the sole intent to discredit a company or item. To me, intent is the key, Loomis' intent was to ask for opinions on an item, I have seen other threads where that is not the intent and those always seem more irresponsible to me.

I see way a lot of threads where "PM me" is written after someone asks a question, that serves no one in the community other than maybe 1 person. It's difficult to contact an auction house about every item someone might bring up valid questions about, they might not even look at the item unless they are interested in which case, I'd want to inform Loomis regardless. If there are rules violated on the forum by not contacting an auction house prior to creating/replying to a discussion regarding the item, then I apologize for violating them. I agree with Jeff, I've been in the hobby off and on for going on 20 years now, albeit with some prolonged breaks and in my experience it is pretty difficult to get something pulled.

Jeff let me know that the Torre bat at SCP is a store model and they have amended the listing after I contacted them. So Jeff your knowledge does help!
