I recently came across an autographed Eddie Murray jersey. I have formed my own belief but thought I would share the tagging with the forum and get their opinions as to the nature of the jersey. The red Rawlings tag is inside the front tail and the white tag is on the lower left side seam. Thanks.

According to Rudy's primer, it's a 1973-1984 tag that can be explained by carryover but the stitching pattern is not what i have seen before. Usually the stitch is a couple of centimeters inside the perimeter of the tag.

I'm not sure if it's up anymore, but this jersey had been on eBay for a bit. The other "flag" I noted when it was listed was that I believe the NOB was sewed directly to the jersey (no nameplate) which was not the case for the Orioles in that time period.

This jersey has a nameplate. The NOB is not directly stitched. The curiosity of the zigzag stitching is what has me curious.

Yeah, the zigzag stitch pattern on the Rawlings tag looks strange. Here are my exemplars from 1985 Cardinals jerseys, home and road.

Same with my Cardinals jerseys from 1983 and 1985. That stitching pattern would cause me some concern.

I see the zig-zag stitching as a definite red flag.

I found this 1984 Murray jersey and pants set that was auctioned off. The pants have the same zigzag stitching pattern.
Does anyone know if that pattern was used at all in 1984 since it's an '84 tag?
Was size 46 always a player issued only size and not offered for individual retail sale or is that a more recent trend?

Thanks for your help.

I don't know if this is a factor but look at the extra needle holes on the left side of the tagging. Makes you wonder.......

That is very suspicious in my opinion. I would stay away.

BIG red flag. The tag was removed from another item and reaffixed here. AVOID!
