This great old Ft. Madison uniform failed to meet its reserve over the weekend. No disrespect to the seller or bidders, but does anyone care to speculate as to why this item would be in the $1500 range?

I like this lot better by this seller:

You can ash your cigarettes into this item during the big game in a few weeks. Oh by the way, if you bid on it, please don't try to pay using PayPal.

Hi. I was watching that Ft. Madison uniform too and was thinking the exact same thing. No reason it should go that high. It's a nice and rare style with the cadet collar and name vertically down the front. Hat is nice too. But $250 for the lot is more reasonable..maybe a little more. But no clue what stevenp and yankee7 were thinking. Perhaps they are really into Ft. Madison items, or prison stuff, but I have never seen them bid on vintage uniforms before, so it makes you wonder.

Would be interesting to see if the seller relists it at a lower reserve or BIN hoping the battle between stevenp and yankee7 raised the lots perceived value. He may offer a second chance to them, but someting tells me neither would really pay that much.

While it is unusual to find a complete uni like this in exceptional condition, that price is excessive. Maybe the bidders thought this was an 1800s piece rather than a 1920s.

Agreed. Caps and leather belts are not often found with uniforms this old (1915-25 I'm guessing), and several features on the shirt are tough to find, especially together, and the fact that it's id'd to a prison is cool; however, condition is weak and I personally wouldn't pay more than $500 for the lot, even if I had the money. Also, what's up with that "A"?

This lot is now on it 3rd re-listing and it now has a BIN of ONLY $1,100. Still way overpriced, but now it appears the two original bidders (stevenP and yankee7) who ran the price up to over $1,500, were as phony as they originally appeared to be.

So, I guess you are not allowed to ask if someone smokes crack?

I think someone struck a nerve.
