Just won a Dale Murphy game used 1984-85 LS B310 bat. It's 34.5 inches long and weighs 30.1 ounces. Taube said this was his preferred model in 1984/85. Was wondering if you could it pin down further for me? Thanks,
Greg

Hey Greg,
Nice buy on the bat. Mike S. recently answered a similar question I asked about a Murphy bat from roughly the same period. Here's the link...

Thanks. The thing is Taube said it was his preferred model in 84/85 so there's got to be records of Murph's records that he accessed? Any ideas?

Hi Greg--

You are right-- the Murphy records are out there....unfortunately my records for Murphy only consist of the bat card records through 6/12/81 ... I am pretty sure Jim Caravello has the additional post-1981 computerized records and will make sure he sees your question to respond...

Hey Guys - sorry for the delay - I have been traveling the last few days without internet access.

During the 84-85 lableing period, Murphy had 13 orders of bats. Of the 13 orders, two were for K55 models and one was for S2 models. The remaining 10 orders were for B310 or B310C ( cupped ) models.

There are numerous Baseball Miscellanoues orders, but was we know from this time period, expecially with star players, there were a lot of bats ordered for promotional purposes that never made it inside the clubhouse. I have not counted any of those orders.

If your bat is cupped, then its from 1984. There were only two orders for B310C model bats that year. There were none in 1985. Both orders in 1984 were for 34.5" - 32 ounce models.

That leaves eight ( 8 ) orders your bat could be from. Let's narrow this down even further. There is only one B310 order in 1985. That order was for 36 pieces of 34.5" - 32 ounce lumber that was Flame Treated.

That leaves seven ( 7 ) B310 orders from 1984. The remaining seven orders are all for 34.5" bats. All the orders are 32 ounce to 32.5 ounce bats. Of these seven remaining orders, five of them are for flame treated bats. One order was for unfinished models and the other order in the records did not have a finish selection indicated.

It sounds as if your bat has lost a little weight over time.

Let me know the finish on your bat and whether its cupped or not and we can pin it down to the specific dates even more.

Thanks, Jim

Thanks Jim.
Bat is flamed finished and is NOT cupped. LMK.

Greg - the Flame Treated order dates are as follows:

8/28/85 - 36 bats
6/18/85 - 36 bats
5/24/85 - 24 bats
4/3/85 - 36 bats
1/28/85 - 36 bats
9/7/84 - 24 bats

I was a little incorrect in my last post - I misread the Ledger Card relative to the dates. The print is tiny and is sometimes hard to read. There are 4 - B310 orders in 1984 including the two cupped orders and 6 - B310 orders in 1985 for a total of 10 total B310 orders as indicated in my first post in the 84-85 labeling period.

Let me know if you have any other questions. Jim
