any opinions on these 2 jerseys?...My opinion is that I don't like them..

A close friend of 15 years told me in 2004, when he started seeing these sell, that they were not the real deal...in 2004, when the lakers switched to Reebok, Kobe started wearing a size 56 and not a 50!!!...My buddy is THE expert on Lakers items and has had the best connections with the Lakers for many years...he also authenticates items for dealers and auction houses discreetly

I've been hearing about this for 2 years but there isn't much that one can do about it untill I discovered this site...This spring he called me all fired up that he finally has proof and that hopfully these size 50's will all be burned...a close-up of Kobe on Getty...he published this on his ebay site and has called the auction houses when he sees one come up for sale...most pull the item and some never respond..but yet these jerseys are still being sold and with LOA's from both Lampson and Mears...

Once again, do your job!!!!...If I failed at my job, I'd get fired!!!...Getty has done all the work for you!!!...take 5 seconds to look up a picture!!!...very frustrating!!!

Not sure if Forum rules allow it but my buddy would be a great resource for this site concerning Lakers items

Can you please reference the Getty Image # that shows the size 56 tag?

What is your friends name? We'd love to have him join the Forum and contribue.

Thanks.

If your friend is a recognized authority on game used Lakers equipment, his involvement in this forum would be welcomed and encouraged. Please ask him to register and post. Regarding all the size 50 Kobe Bryant Lakers jerseys on the market, please post whatever evidence you have that points to the fact that Kobe wears a size 56 and not a 50. If you are unable to post photos, please email me the photos and I'll post them on your behalf. Posting that type of photographic evidence in a public forum is the best thing you can do to assist other collectors.

Thanks for your input.

I am no fan of Historic, but Kobe never wore a 56 jersey. 56 is huge, Karl Malone wore a 54, Shaq wore a 56. You need to associate with better friends. :D

My gosh, you must be a Boston Celtics fan. Like I said, show me a 56 jersey (exclusively) worn by Kobe in the time-frame we are talking about, then let's talk. Everyone knows there's a "fat" and "skinny" Shaq, but Kobe? Nope, not for the "pound for pound" basketball player in the NBA.:p

in these finals of 2002 they were still wearing Nike and this jersey was a size 52...when they switched to Reebok they must have ran smaller because he started wearing a 56 in 2004

there are bushels of photos of bryant on getty with his jersey untucked from various years. if the discussion is about 2006, someone buy this photo - Image #51909666 - and the case will be solved.

Rudy: Your eyes may be better than mine, but, once again, show me a game-use Kobe jersey in the time-frame, then let's talk. In 2015, when Kobe is as fat as Shaq is now, perhaps, but until then. East coast bias, if you ask me. Kobe wore 48, 50's, maybe 52's when he was on his period and bloated, but 56? Forgetaboutit!:p

rick,

i'm not on either side. i don't know anything about basketball jerseys and the last time i was into the nba, david robinson was a rookie and i was watching jordan, pippen, and co., try for their first championship. i'm just posting pics and letting people arrive at their own conclusions.

however, for the sake of discussion, let me ask you, does the first pic of kobe in the training room with the "56" tag clearly visible not prove it all?
clearly the tag is not a warmup tag as those all seemed to be letter sized (XL, XXL, 4XL). do you agree that the tag shown is a game jersey tag?
if you do, then isn't the whole matter closed? i mean..the tag is a reebok tag..and it's from a game jersey..and it says "56". is this not the timeframe we're referring to? i'm just not sure where the room for interpretation is.

i'm not sure the fact that he wore a 52 is a "maybe". it's right there in the 2002 pics, clear as day.

Pictures, pictures everywhere, but, where's the proof? You guys must be working for Lou. Anyway, like I said, Eastcoast bias, but, this time it sounds, no it feels, like Knicks fans. Tony Soprano, I need your help, tell them's guys they be silly and smack them down. Don't disrespect the Bing!

Gentlepeople: Rudy, y'all did some homework. Look at any Greyflannel, Leland, or Vintage auction for the past 4 years and show me a 56 Kobe. Oh, you say, Lou's nefarious hand is in each, but show me any other place where a 56 Kobe in our time-frame is sold. Lou is in "game-use heaven" laughing at ya. Hey, does anyone have anymore blurry and inconclusive pictures? It's Dragnet folks, "the facts, just the facts.":p

here's another good one...I just talked to my Lakers buddy and he told me that he submitted a size 56 jersey to american memorabilia for their auction ..and they rejected it because their "authenticator" said that he doesn't wear a 56...how screwed up is that?

Check out the recent Greyflannel auction referenced by Eric a couple of days ago. The Kwami and Lamar lot (2004-05) were 50 and 54. Are you telling me that Kobe is bigger than those guys?

Rick...

How many pictures of Kobe wearing a 56 do you need to see?

Dr. J wore a size 40...who cares what other guys are wearing...this thread was started on the Kobe's ...search the other guys for their sizes and i'm sure you'll find some pictures and then post back

Encinorick,

At this point I am convinced that you don't want to the see the facts in the two pictures posted. In each, it shows him clearly wearing a size 56 and each picture is from 2006...Did you recently buy a Kobe size 50 or something? Or are you just messing around. The proof is obvious..A photo of a 56 size tag doesn't lie...Next time your in New York, I'll buy you a beer to wash all that crow down...

Dave

Dave: Must be the altitude in New York, but sorry, nice try. Anyway, thanks for the invite perhaps we can meet in my old stomping ground in Brooklyn, Avenue N and East 2nd Street. Oh by the way, don't also try to sell me that Bridge there, or, more importantly, don't take me to a Knicks game, ok? But, the drinks are on me. ;)
