Question on Yasiel Puig Old Hickory bats. I've noticed on a few bats on Ebay claiming to be game used that they have letters in front of the 7 digit code but the bats with MLB Stickers do not. What does this mean?

Thanks but my question is for the LDMX- in front of 1401287 YP10. Some bats have it and some don't. What does LDMX mean on Old Hickory Bats?

Information supplied by member TigerDale:

When MLB instituted the serial numbers for the 2009 season (announced in December 2008), there had already been a few shipments of bats that left the Old Hickory facility. There may still be a handful of 2009 bats that do not have a serial number engraved on them. This goes for some other bat manufacturers as well.

The LDM refers to the bat being a "Low Density Maple" bat. Starting with the 2012 season, MLB is requiring either an "LDM" or "LDMX" inscription on all low density maple bats. "LDM" will appear on bats from players that signed their first MLB contract prior to the 2011 season and the "LDMX" inscription appears on bats of players whose first MLB contract was in either 2011 or 2012.

The "LDM" players can actually use a lower density maple than the "LDMX" players. It is MLB's way of grandfathering in some of the bats that older players have been used while trying to limit the "high breakage" models for younger, newer players.

So in 2013 were there any maple bats that would be made for players without the LDM or LDMX stamping?
