The jersey does look very familiar. Can you give us a little background on it? There are some very well versed mj collectors here. When did you acquire it, about how much, from who ah, eBay, private? Etc.
Or are you looking to purchase it?
We'll def try to help you out.

I acquired it as part of a trade for some star current nfl players jerseys and some high end autographs took a chance after comparing to other jerseys that have sold in auction...thanks for any help.

Is there any way to take a pic of the front, a little closer?

The NBA logo from that year (and most) are usually a little farther down, as if you drew a horizontal line across the bottom of the neck piping to the right, it should almost cut about 3/4 down the NBA logo.

Another thing is the white border around the 'BULLS' and '23' lends to be thicker than in your pic of the front, but again, this just may be due to your small pic and the jersey being farther away from the camera.

But at first glance, it looks pretty good. Size 44, +3 is correct for the '86/87 year.

Awesome pickup!

Here are cloe up pics of the logo...used an envelope to make horizontal location placement...really appreciate the opinions from those who know these Jordan early jerseys

Is "bulls" screened on or are the letters vynal like the numbers and NOB?

Its the same as the name and numbers...heat pressed vinyl

I'm not a 100% positive, but I'm pretty sure that Bulls was always screened on and not vynal

Would be interesting to see if others here have any bulls jerseys with the Bulls in vynal

This same jersey sold on ebay May 19th 2011 for 2,999. It was sold as team issued and un-used by a seller in France.

I just checked the BULLS and my mistake it IS screened on....I felt both the numbers then the BULLS and the numbers are much thicker and heat pressed vinyl...the BULLS is thinner and screened on....as far as the same jersey selling back in 2011 from a seller in France then if this is the same one the collector I got it from did not get it from ebay....is there a link to that ebay auction to compare...just curious...appreciate all of the info.

Just to clarify I checked the BULLS on the jerseys and it is def not nearly as thick as the numbers on the jersey...not knowing a lot about basketball jerseys it would appear that the BULLS is screened on and the numbers are heat pressed vinyl based on the feel and thickness of both

Last post on heat pressed or screened..lol...it is very hard to tell other than the BULLS does not appear to feel as thick as the numbers on the jersey...hope that helps

The only way you can view it most likely is through worthpoint. I have provided the link.

http://www.worthpoint.com/worthopedia/1986-87-michael-jordan-bulls-game-206063773

Also here are the pictures. You can clearly tell from the tail tagging that this is your jersey.

Also from the pictures you posted it looks like the jersey has been washed/roughed up since it was sold back in 2011.

Here is the screen capture in case you cannot view it.

How can you tell the difference between screen print and vinyl pressed?

Thanks for the info...for what it is worth the individual I obtained this jersey from claimed he has had the jersey since the late 80's.....so go figure....again thanks for the info.....is it worth sending to MEARS to have authenticated...and would it at least receive an A5 grade?

How can you tell the difference between screen print and vinyl pressed?

Screen printing prints a semi liquid plastic ink into the garment, which permeates the fabric. It is then Cured in extreme heat and becomes a solid. This is guaranteed to outlast any textile.

Vinyl is a sticker that is presses on with an iron or heat press. It is basically a sticker glued onto the shirt.

Vinyl is good for teams or sports mostly, a good Vinyl will last about 5 to 6 months of regular wear, where screen printing should in most cases last 2 to 3 years before any major changes, or 50 to 100 washes.

Just glancing at the price scale you would be looking at a minimum of 500.00 just to get it graded, probably more because it is Michael Jordan.

If it is indeed the game issued jersey and the "wear" is recent then why would you send it to Mears?

I could not agree more.

The reason I asked about MEARS is that they could verify team issue A5..If they do does that help value of the jersey...and if it actually is the jersey from 2011 auction then if it indeed has been altered then that is not how it was represented to me in the trade.....it is the first basketball jersey I have had in a very long time, and based on comparisons I looked at in other auctions I thought it was worth trading for....especially a early Jordan jersey

Maybe you should contact the previous owner with the new info. Also maybe the original eBay seller.
If it was sent to Mears as is without letting them know this info and determined as used that would be a bit misleading in my opinion.

How much value in items did you trade away for the jersey would you say ?

I do not have a problem with the jersey itself possibly being team issued.

I traded out about $2500-$3000 for the jersey...and I sent an email to the person I traded with to inquire and ask more about the jersey...and sent him the worthpoint link....what are the concerns about it being team issued?

Like Lund6771 mentioned on page 1 about screened on compared to vinyl with regards to the "BULLS" across the front.

Like this jersey

So I did some 5 mins looking on Gettys and found that just about every 1986/87 pic on there that shows Jordan in his road red jersey, has the NBA logo down actually past the bottom of the neck piping.
Here's some pics from Gettys (hope they come out!)

As far as the screened on/vinyl applied, I *think* this pic shows where you can clearly see the mesh holes in the black '23' on the back, especially where that small bit of flash hits the top/left of the '3'.
I think on your jersey, you can't see the mesh holes in the numbers, as if they were applied on top of the jersey?? Not sure, but just thought this pic may/may not help.

Appreciate all of the input on the jersey....I have no concerns with the lettering or numbers....screened or heat pressed vinyl...they aeem to be correct...and I sent pics to several collectors who agree...the Getty pictures to raise some concerns as the logo is def lower....that being said on two white jerseys from that year the logo is the same height as mine...one sold in GFC auction....I am not saying that the logo is correct on mine....I am satisfied that it is team issued, and worth what I traded for it....as with any jersey I wish there were zero issues or questions, and I appreciate all of the help.....as I did with the Fisk jersey that was purchased by a national dealer who saw it in person in his hands and was happy to purchase the jersey.

In response to being able to see mesh holes on the back number 23 they are clearly visible on the jersey, picture posted it is tough to see but you can clearly see them

Hi Scott -- Thanks for sharing this MJ jersey with the forum. Would you please provide the name of the seller from whom you obtained the jersey?

If this jersey is only and issued I hope we don't see it floating around later as game worn.

Little bit weird we haven't got a reply to the questions re seller and other jersey yet

This guy has a history of asking for opinions on jerseys, then trying to convince the people who point out discrepancies that they are wrong.
