Best luck I have had is contacting the players directly from twitter or facebook or just a google search.

I don't do that with big name players though, as they get swamped with fanl mail and requests all the time.

I have spoken to journeymen MLB players and NFL players with very brief careers and most of them are very happy that they had a fan and that someone remembered their career.
