Not sure if any of you saw this jersey on ebay...I purchased it...it came today...was described as a minor league jersey...when it arrived I was surprised and excited to see that it MAY be his actual home gamer from 77...the jersey is DEF white,,,very faded from heavy use and many washings...ALL original...any help or thoughts would be appreciated!

I have seen a 1975 gamer tagged the same and is also a size 44. Does there appear to be any number changevor anything? Can you turn the jersey inside out and take a picture of the stitching where the numbers are sewn?

I think the seller thought this was an away Jersey lol.

Agreed....I think he thought it was an away grey jersey that should have had BOSTON on it...no doubt it IS a home jersey....and from my research seems to be an awesome FISK gamer from 77...what do you think?

Any Red Sox experts have an opinion....anyway to photomatch this jersey?

Phil316

Not a 100% photo match but the redsox across the front including the closed s looks pretty close.

Wow...thanks for the help! I looked ay his 1977 Hostess trading card and that looks pretty close as well...I guess its almost impossible to match...really appreciate your help! Any idea what a current market value on this jersey might be?

Also looking at the picture you references if you look at the v neck collar in front and draw a straight line down the D in Red is a bit closer than the S in Sox and looking at my jersey it is the same...and the closed hook on the S is almost identical...again probably tough to find EXACT photo match but the evidence looks VERY good!

The only thing that might be an issue after poking around is the size. In 1975 he wore a 44 and in 1976 he wore a 45 (odd size I know). I would suggest messaging Lon Lewis who is one of the guys in the hobby who knows a lot of stuff about these jerseys.

Not sure but this is the email I used several years ago.

Everything that can be analyzed in the photos seems to be supportive of its authenticity. I've seen a number of Red Sox home gamers from the mid-1970s that were recycled in the minors, and carry that light grey fading from the extra wear and washings.

I agree with Dave you can only go on what you can see from the photos. Also you can only go on the info the person tells you.

I had a fellow forum member email me and he actually examined the jersey in person and said it is road gray and 100% a paw Sox Jersey.

So there y ou have it. Looks can be deceiving I suppose. I still like the jersey regardless.

The jersey is DEF not grey.....I showed it to several Red Sox collectors who have jerseys from the same era (some even from 1977) and there HOME white jerseys are heavily faded as well...they also had a few GREY Pawtucket jerseys in there collection and rest assured the FISK is not close to their GREY jerseys...in any case I will prob send to MEARS although I feel confident it is good

Just passing along one man's opinion as he did have it in hand. I would welcome his post on here but he has yet to do so.

It will be interesting to see if Lon Lewis responds and what his response will be.

I would guess about 5K retail and 3 - 4K at auction. Not bad for a $500 investment.

I wanted to update this thread...I received an email from Lon Lewis...he stated that the jersey is a very faded and heavily soiled home white jersey....he checked his records for Fisk order sizes for 1977 and it was a size 45....I am now looking for opinions on this jersey as to whether or not it is legit....any help or opinions are appreciated, and thanks Mr. Lewis for your help and response.

The 1978 Red Sox year book has a photo of Fisk in home white on the cover. Photo probably taken in 1977. Although it's a side angel, it my have some characteristics to help identify. Perhaps you could obtain the yearbook or find a better, close-up photo. I don't have it, so I don't know what other photos are in it. I believe there is also a "second edition" yearbook for 1978 as well. Generally many of the photos are from previous season or ST.

Well if Fisk ordered all 45's and yours is a 44 there is your answer.

Scott, Whoa, I didn't say that it was a home jersey. I said I couldn't tell. There's a big difference. Please don't make things up just to serve your own needs.

I think he really wants this jersey to be something it is not. I recieved an email from a HUGE Red Sox collector and he told me flat out he inspected it and it is a Pawsox jersey. Some people just do not get it.

It is still a nice jersey with a a Fisk auto. Nothing more nothing less. Hopefully it does not wind up on ebay or another auction as a game used Fisk.

How can you tell the 70s Pawsox from the Boston? Didn't Boston recycle most of their jerseys to the minor leagues. I know the Bristol Red Sox (AA) were wearing McAuliffs back during the late 70s early 80s? If I recall correctly, I think they put BRISTOL over the front were BOSTON was on the road jerseys.

Did PawSox having unique tagging?

The Red Sox mlb team wore Boston on their gray away jerseys not Red Sox. They wore Red Sox on the home jersey's. Since this is grey and does not have Boston but Red Sox it is 100% a Pawsox jersey. I talked to a long time Red Sox collector who held this exact jersey in his hands and compared the jersey and he has no doubt it is a Pawsox jersey. Not to mention the size differential as Fisk ordered 45's and this is a 44.

Did the PawSox wear Wilson jerseys during the 70s? I just saw an ebay auction for a 80s PawSox jersey. Curious to know if PawSox changed from McAuliffe to Wilson.

Back then, the suppliers for the Pawsox seemed to usually be the same as the suppliers for Boston. That said, while not an ironclad belief, I would lean towards the idea of the Pawtucket team switching to Wilson when the Major League Red Sox did (1979).
