Every few weeks there seems to be another disputed HR call. Some HRs are changed and some are incorrectly missed by the umps even after watching video.

Then you have to wonder how many of these balls make it into the hobby and how many are actually MLB Authenticated.

Here's one called a double and looked foul and was changed to a Home Run by Matt Joyce of the Tampa Bay Rays vs the Baltimore Orioles yesterday.

Very ironic how another person named Joyce is involved in a controversial call...

The long delay in the game was an unfortunate misunderstanding of the umpires knowledge of the rules of replay. The play was ruled a double by the umpires. Buck Showalter then argued that the ball was foul, not fair. Then Joe Maddon argued that the ball was a home run, and not a double, but that was not the heart of the argument. The argument was whether the umpires could rule the ball as a foul ball when reviewing it for a home run. Joe's argument was that if he asked for a replay (as you can challenge a home run), they could only rule it a home run or revert to the on field call of a double. The umpires thought they had the power to rule it a foul ball if it was being reviewed as a home run, which is why Joe was arguing for so long on the field. It is a good thing it was a home run, or else this would have been a controversy.

Joe got his cake and ate it too on this one!
