As far as I know, the only time the Sox wore 1912 style jerseys was for the 100th Aniversary game on 4/20/12 vs the Yankees. The jerseys worn on that day had no numbers on the back. The auction jersey has a number on back... No idea where this jersey could have come from because in the in May 10th game the auction references, they wore their regular home whites.

Prototype jersey? MLB Holgram that's not in the system.... very strange, but I can't see how this jersey could possibly be game used. Any thoughts??

Oh- also, theres nothing in the Henderson guide that matches this style. The only thing close was the 2011 1918 style jersey with the same number style on back, but no Red Sox on front.

The only time I see that type of weird strip tag in a Majestic jersey is with prototypes and the like. Still, anyone who CAN pinpoint a date of usage in 2012 please chime in. I don't claim to be the definitive word on this question.

It is a prototype from the 100th anniversary game. I own a few from that 4/20/12 game and and they have strip tags with the name/number/size if I remember correctly (willing to post one for reference). I think the actual Sweeney gamer was sold via MLB auctions in mid-2012.

I've also seen a few others Sox prototypes in recent years (they had one at last season's yard sale, I think it was a blue alt) with similar tagging.

Dolphinboy has numerous threads about his "game used" bats; that right there would rule me out from being interested in this jersey.

I also have a real 1912 TBTC jersey from the 4/20/12 game (mlb auth, photo/video matched etc...) but with no strip tag.

Looks like the seller needs to change the description in their auction because it certainly wasn't used in the game described, or even in any game at all...

Agreed. I've also seen one that had no strip tags, but was covered in dirt/stains and was worn in the game. The Red Sox are REALLY bad when it comes to consistent strip tagging.

Another giveaway that something is fishy with this item is the game photo in the auction shows a right handed thrower. Ryan Sweeney is left handed. That pic is most likely of Jed Lowrie- in a completely different jersey style and a completely different game and year than the one up for sale. Sketchy.

Good call. The photo is of Lowrie from the 1918 throwback game in 2011.

Photo is from the main page of the MLB auction listing which clearly states these are from the 2011 game:

Has anyone else emailed ol' dolphinboy? I did and he's his usual crabass self.
