Mine would definately be the Ryne Sandberg glove with the gold label from the early 90's. He was my favorite player growing up, so it was a grail of mine. Thanks again to Jim for helping me out with it!!

For me, it would be Jeter's game used cleats from 2011 season - DJ3K makes it even better. Now I am waiting for the opportunity to send them in and get them signed by the Captain himself.

Hopefully, by the beginning of 2013, I will have a Jeter's signed bat to match. :D

The 1,273 game used 04 and 05 MLB locker nameplates that I sold off this year was the top pickup. Most people were great to deal with when I sold them off. But with that many to sell, plenty of flakey people to deal with in the process, which really became a pain.

Without that bulk buy it would not allowed me to get the following:

-Ben Zobrist game used new concussion style helmet
-Elliot Johnson 2012 pink mother's game Used homerun bat
-Michael Koenen 2011 Buccaneers game used jersey
-Jack Golden Bucs Game USed 2002 & super bowl helmet
-Chuck Darby 2002 red game used playoff and super bowl jersey (grail item)
-Ben Zobrist game issued 2009 all star game bp jersey
-Matt Joyce 2011 game used fielding glove
-Hank Blalock Rays game used helmet and jersey
-Ben Zobrist rookie year 2006 game used bat (authenticated)
-1996 orange game used Bucs jersey (grail item)

Spalding. The Cards seemed to switch back and forth between Spalding and Rawlings in those days. In fact, the '26 road was Rawlings. 1927 home and road both were Spalding. Seems if you see the Old English STL on the sleeve (the L looks like an M), Spalding was the manufacturer.

Feast or famine this year, lost out on some great items (Joe Greene jersey from Canada, where are you????), picked up a few great items. Best one though is a golf item, a sport which isn't mentioned much on this forum, it's the actual flag that flew on the 18th green when Jack Nicklaus won one of his greatest and most famous major championships. When I was 15 I had the good fortune to meet the great man when he made a surprise appearance at my home club and I was introduced to him by our Pro as our "Junior Club Champion", what a thrill! Later on I attended many major championships and followed Nicklaus around the course every time I could. Golf items that are truly the "game worn" type are so few and far between, this was a real surprise pickup and definitely made my 2012! I'm always happy to top off the year with a Steelers durene though if anyone is selling!!!!

My most sentimental pickup this year was a game worn Mika Kane Cal Bears jersey since he gave it to me personally. Kane was a student-athlete I advised and I was very proud of him for coming back to school, after his pro football career didn't pan out, and graduating this past May.

After holding out on collecting game used baseballs, I finally picked up a few for my Jimmy Rollins player collection this past year. The top one is his first career World Series hit...a single off Matt Garza. It's a ball authenticated to Game 3 of the 2008 WS. I also picked up a Rollins HR ball authenticated to 9/19/12 vs the Mets. It was J-Roll's 192nd career HR and his 43rd career leadoff HR. In addition I picked up J-Roll's 400th career double. I'm now on the lookout for a J-Roll "triple" ball to complete the career cycle!!

mine would be the two custom Rawlings wristbands (home and road version) from 1996 period. very inexpensive but hard to find. waited four years for them to come up for sale again. got to thank Tony (3arod13) for giving me the go ahead with the purchase, preventing a bidding war. thats what this hobby is about -- helping friends complete their collecting goals.

the red piping is classic cardinals.
was the team nickname and the two cardinals w/ bat removed for a reason?
is there a name stripe tag inside the jersey to identify blades as the owner?
i just find these old jersey finds very interesting historically.

Wow, that's pretty cool. How did you attribute the jersey to Blades and where did you get it?

I took a look at Dressed to the Nines and the 26 Cards jersey looked a little different. Thoughts?

The jersey was sold by Blades' niece, who was divesting several items belonging to her uncle to help pay medical bills. With manipulation, you can faintly see Blades' name on the tag under the collar and written in the tail.

Dressed to the Nines is useful, but far from accurate. In '26, the home jerseys were plain white with just the logo on the sleeve. The team received a new set for the World Series -- these had piping on the placket and a different logo on the sleeve. I think that's what Dressed to the Nines uses for its home illustration. The road jerseys in '26 had the birds on bat and pinstripes; a new set for the WS looked similar, but the logo was altered a bit (easily differentiated by the "C").

I was a bit harsh saying Dressed to the Nines is "far from accurate." It actually is accurate in most cases and represents an amazing contribution to the hobby. The size of the graphics makes it difficult to convey small details, like the sleeve logo or the different crests. And there are some errors on older uniforms that may be the result of insufficient information when the database was created. Overall, though, it's a wonderful resource... and it would be great if it could be updated as new discoveries come to light.

Thanks for the history lesson Jeff. I thoroughly enjoy posts about older jerseys that entail some research. That's probably the first and last 26 jersey you'll ever own and I'm sure you'll give it a nice home.

To me the story adds the value rather than Jeter himself.

Yankees' Jeter Fields Broken Bat

AP , Associated Press AP News Archive Oct. 26, 2000 10:28 PM ET
NEW YORK (AP) _ When a shattered bat head spun toward Yankees shortstop Derek Jeter, he knew exactly what to do: anything but throw it.

In Game 5 of the World Series on Thursday night, Mets shortstop Kurt Abbott broke his bat when he fouled off a pitch from Yankees starter Andy Pettitte in the fourth inning.

Making light of the Roger Clemens-Mike Piazza bat-throwing controversy from Game 2, Jeter fielded the broken bat as if it were a ball. The ball actually went into the stands along the first-base line.

Jeter, with a wry smile on his face, scooped up the bat head with his glove and slowly handed it to the Mets' batboy. The crowd roared, recalling the play from Game 2.

Fans then began chanting ``Roger, Roger'' as Clemens sat stone-faced in the Yankees dugout. Piazza smiled in his team's dugout.

At Yankee Stadium on Sunday night, Piazza broke his bat hitting a pitch from Clemens and a chunk of wood shot out toward the mound. Clemens picked it up and threw it toward Piazza, who had started to trot up the first-base line.

Both benches emptied, but no punches were thrown in what could end up being the most memorable moment of the Subway Series.
