Added a few more to my Evan Longoria collection...2011 game used hat is pounded with use...the story behind the ball goes like this....I was actually at this game and this ball was hit by Longoria for a single, it was thrown back in to the pitcher (Holland) and the very next pitch it was thrown into the dirt to Keppinger...ball was thrown into the dugout and authenticated as "pitch in the dirt to Keppinger by Holland). I've even verified it on MLB.TV, but haven't gotten a response from the MLB authentication people about adding to the description, but none the less an awesome piece that I'll always treasure

I haven't had the time to photograph, but in the last few months or so I've added to my 300 HR collection with the following bats:

2005 Larry Walker
2011 Miguel Tejada
2008 Carlos Delgado
2011 Carlos Beltran

I'll try to add some photos if I get the chance.

I look forward to seeing what everyone comes up with in November.

Jwal23: MLB Authentication parameters do not allow for the authentication to be such amended even if there was constant video surveillance on the ball. The parameters on ball authentication to a relevant play strictly require the authenticator’s personal observation. Anyway, you aren’t alone in finding pleasure in your baseball for its real relevance (regardless of the relevant play being absent in the authentication). A few of my favorites are the same way, including one of my own November additions. Point is, when collecting for pleasure, your absolute knowledge of the item is the only knowledge that matters.

The primary focus of our ball collection is Joey Votto and he batted .389 in the 2012 NLDS. I’d hoped to get an authenticated “hit ball” but none of his seven hits were authenticated as “hits”. Fortunately, I was there in person for the four hits which happened at Great American Ball Park. Only one of those four hits reached the authenticator (after Zito walked the following batter in the 1st inning of game 4).

My advice to you after researching MLB authentication parameters in great detail…. Just be happy you know what you have… and grateful you were fortunate enough to obtain it. The only member of the game used community whose absolute knowledge about your ball matters is you. And you already have that.

Here is a picture of my Joey Votto 2012 NLDS hit ball, from the 1st inning of Game 4. It was Votto's 5th career postseason hit and I'm grateful to both know of and have it! I'm happy for your addition too.

dplettn, your comments are well-put. We've discussed under various other topics the value of doing your own research on game-used balls, using the play-by-play of mlb.com, as well as video evidence. I keep a folder in which I record the observations and evidence I've found that tell me how my ball was previously used, and how it fits into the full flow of the game. Personally, I'm glad the authenticators are so strict. That gives me the fun of adding to my knowledge through my own work.

It's been a big few weeks.
- Tiger Stadium final game jersey worn by Dave Mlicki and honoring Mickey Lolich and Aurelio Lopez.
- A few 2012 Team USA jerseys. The blue alternate is a new material, similar to All Star workout day jerseys, thinner and less expensive. I was told by my contact at USA Baseball they weren't big fans. The blue was too dark, more Yankees blue and they prefer a shade closer to the Braves. The reds were the first made by Majestic for Team USA and those may be one and done as they went 0-2 wearing those.

My first foray into college football game worn, a few from my alma mater (Michigan).
- Two game worn from the Nike era, circa 2007.
- Two 2009 practice worn Adidas, David Molk #50 and Obi Ezeh #45.

Just got this great World Football League (WFL) 1975 Philadelphia Bell game used jersey of quarterback Bob Davis. Lots of game use. The neat thing about the jersey is the fact that they took a nameplate from another jersey, turned it over, put DAVIS on the back of it, then sewed it on the jersey. (Much thanks to Mark Hayne for enlightening me to that common practice with WFL teams)

It doesn't fit into my collection either, but it is just too hard to pass up on. I have a collection of various random jerseys. This was my last major purchase for a good amount of time.I spent $900 on a few MILB jerseys earlier this month, but it is well worth it. I am not out any money though, because I made the 1K by selling off bowman autos at various times during this season. This was pretty much my "blackfriday".

Robo Sack was actually a big part in the Bucs getting to the Super Bowl that year.

He went 2-0 in 2 regualr season starts to clinch the division and 1st round bye. Funny thing though is that he didn't get a touchdown in either win.

I was absolutely thrilled with the prices I got on these. I paid less than $100 more for these two full uniforms than I almost paid for a blank Gophers jersey in the pro shop a couple years ago. I picked the Deduno because the #21 was worn by Delmon with the Twins.

Its pretty tough to tell. I do believe that during all of Justices' years with atlanta his name was never embroidered on his gloves. I dont think he started that until he went to cleveland in 97. I know for a fact in 97 he used the same type of glove, but the laces were tan. Id have to double check on 98 and 99. Also, i believe he switched over to Easton during his years in NY and oakland. But dont quote me on that.

Thanks for the information Steven. I was coming to the same conclusion of Indians era circa 1997-1999. What I am hearing is that Rawlings started this name stitching around 1997. My best educated guess right now is that the glove was manufactured in or after 1997 for possible use in 1998 season or later. I have found some photos of David using a black laced trapeze in 1998 with Cleveland. Still working on more research. The attached pictures are from October 3, 1998.

I don't know, I just decided I'd do that. LOL, I sure didn't think I'd get this kind of response. And yes if the powers at be need to know, that is the holo number.

just wanted to make sure thats not how you bought it. if it was really smudged off, it could be any number from in that area (great display of research skills chakes89)

but knowing it came from andrew, i know it was you who blurred it off. not a bad idea based on people stealing photos and trying to scam other collectors of item that they really dont own. sad but true imho.

Harmon Killebrew '69-'72 bat-

I picked this up thru trade with a friend and fellow GUU member...a Killebrew GU 10 bat with really nice use, heavy pine tar and a perfect signature with inscription.

Ben

As usual Ben, a great stick! Given the 1969-72 time frame, this might have been used in Killebrew's MVP year (1969).

Thanks. It's a rather simple system to crack once you narrow down your search parameters. Took me about 5 or so minutes to track down the number

Just got this back from JT/PSA DNA. It's 33" 1997 Jeter block letter, according to John, Jeter only ordered 11 bats of this length. Jeter block letter bats are hard to come by, and at this length pretty rare. The bat shows no use, but still pretty cool! I haven't decided if I'm going to keep or not as I would rather have one with use. But none the less I'm happy to have it.

One of the best way to deter people from stealing photos is to make a tag to go over the photo. It is quite sad how people will steal photos just to pass it off as thier own.

Here's a sample of my tag.

Extremely easy (Sorry, I know I'm not Scott)...just open the picture into Microsoft Paint and type text over an area you choose to make your own watermark

Next up is a Nelson Cruz 1994 Throwback jersey from 7-7-12 vs. Minnesota. Cruz hit a walkoff double in the 10th to win the game. I have always wanted a jersey with dirt on it and am very stoked to add this. The stain came from a second inning RBI double.

That's a good start but it's still possible to steal the image because the text could be easily cropped out. Something semi-transparent that goes through the center of the image would be better for what you are trying to achieve while still leaving the actual image visible to others

I've never heard the term "grain swelling" before. Would that be the same as "deadwood", do you think, or is that something different, in your experience? I'd actually like to see a thread devoted to bat condition terminology; I tried to start one, a while back, but it went nowhere. I can't believe I'm the only one who doesn't already know everything.

My understanding of this is that grain swelling is what causes deadwood. The grain "swells" from contact and ridges/ripples appear on the bat and when used enough those eventually start to split or splinter away from the bat, which is deadwood.

Nice bat Adam!

Worn, acquired, and autographed with game-specific inscription all in November, 2012.

This is a pretty special one for me. The game was a big win over the Super Bowl Champs and looks to have turned around the Bengals’ season. The jersey was worn for the 8th of AJ’s (single season Bengals record) 9 straight games with a receiving TD. And for my family, the game’s date was even more important than either.

AJ Green is as rare of an athlete as it was to beat coverage as badly he did to open the game’s scoring. At a “Bengals Nation” taping tonight, he smiled genuinely with pride for making fans happy as he signed autographs. AJ couldn’t have possibly been more gracious in providing the precise inscription requested and shaking hands after.

Nice jersey!

Along those same lines, I have a quick question to you or anyone else that can help.

Who is handling Bengals game worn stuff this season? I know that they have ran a few jerseys through NFL Auctions but are they back to doing it in-house or did they contract out to another company? I'm asking because I want a jersey from a non-star (yet) and have no idea where to even begin to look for one.

Anybody have any information that they would be willing to share?

Thanks!

There isn't a list and the use varies. Price wise, most available names are similar to the "sale" prices of the (outfit) to which you referred.

I had been pretty critical of their handling of the GU segment before the JO hit the fan. Dare I say it in Cincinnati... things have improved dramatically!

In contrast, the Bengals are well set in supporting their patrons this year IMHO. During halftime it can be fun to nudge non-collecting fans to jump in head first. I believe its pretty special access for a team to provide on site to its patrons in this era of our hobby.

To those in the Cincinnati area, I'd recommend swinging by and smelling the roses. Seriously, they are doing a good job.

It's nice to hear that they are doing it in-house again and at reasonable prices. I always liked looking at the jerseys in the pro shop.

I just hope that the player I am looking for is even available. I'm gonna have to call them or get down there and see what they have available.
