Can anyone help me identify that I am correct with the assessment that in 1989-1990 The Detroit Pistons wore vinyl lettering for the names on the back of their jerseys? The eBay listing the jersey has screed on lettering for the last name. I emailed the seller and am awaiting a reply, but the listing ends in 27 hours and I'd like to bid if I was wrong with my findings so maybe someone can help between now and then.

Maybe someone can help find better pictures than I found?

It originally sold in American Memorabilia in 2007 -

Yes the pistons wore vinyl letters and numbers during this era. I'm skeptical of the smaller version of the designed for tag. I think I recall that it has been discussed before and was used on non gamers.

Here is a link that has a good picture of the normal style of designed for tag:

Hope someone else can chime in if they have the link for the other discussion involving the small tags.

The smaller, thinner "designed for" tag was indeed used on gamers and some retail shirts of the era.
I am unsure about the screened NOB. The Pistons did use heat-pressed numerals/NOB in the era. Very well could be a legit variation.

The seller replied showing me the following Grey Flannel lot:

The jersey they emailed me has correctly vinyl lettering for the last name.

Just received the following email from a vintage NBA expert:

"Grey Flannels jersey is vinyl, Pistons never wore screened letters on back. Pistons changed to sewn on letters in 1995-1996"

Vinyl seems to be what I recall as well.
