The Kansas City Royals are auctioning off the pool skimmer used to retrieve baseballs from the outfield fountains during the 2012 All-Star Game:

While the money is going to charity, this is among the more bizarre items I've seen at auction.

Not saying that a collector can't get pleasure from this. Just that I'm amazed at what lengths clubs will go to sell their wares.

Not greed if it's going to charity.. but definitely a crazy item.

yea but who is paying for it? you or someone else. i don't see buying anything and everything just because it is going to charity. especially when it is a ridiculous item for a ridiculous amount of money. i will give to charity but not all that.

I would not either. But that's not the point. Someone will, and it will go to charity. It's really not an issue of greed.

I once had a bunch of personal items that belonged to Ted Williams. The buyer of the bathroom soap dish (with vintage Ted Williams soap residue inside) turned out to own a janitorial services company and wanted the soap dish to place on his his office desk. You can never know the background of the seller :)

Last word was meant to be buyer not seller.
