I got my third Jerry Owens bat in the mail today I purchased on eBay. Signed blonde Old Hickory.
I also got a Julio Borbon LVS today. He told me he'd get me one when he cracks one. He came out of the clubhouse going to the field before the game and looked at my bro and I, asked which one was Dylan. I said "me" and he handed me the bat
Pics up soon

elliot johnson June 30, 2012 game used throwback helmet. HE got a bunt hit in this helmet, which was his 83rd career basehit.

FYI, this helmet is the eaxct same helmet the Rays use for their regular helmets and they put an overlay decal on the front logo to give the throwback look.
In my opinion, this helmet was used in SEVERAL games prior to the throwback game. Shows very good use to have only been worn in 1 game.

I struck gold at the Cardinals Authentics shop tonight. This helmet was being sold as a team-issued batting helmet for $75 because the number decal had been removed. However, I could tell that it was only a single digit number. Plus I knew that only a handful of Cardinals players wear the Cool Flo style helmets and that Holliday’s helmet size is 7 5/8. So I was fairly confident that it was Holliday’s helmet. Sure enough I get home and start browsing through photos and it was clearly worn by Holliday throughout the 2011 postseason, including the World Series! Not bad for $67.50 with my discount!

The first photo is from the NLDS and the second one is from the World Series.

Hank Blalock 2010 game used rays jersey and his 2010 game used batting helmet. Helmet is believed to be the last helmet he used in MLB. the jersey is the second to last jersey he ever wore. On June 27, 2010 the rays wore powder blue that day. The day before they wore white. Jersye is a size 50 + 1 inch sleeve length and tapered "2010" tagging. Interestingly enough, in 2010 the Rays had "set 2010" tagging and just "2010" tagging on their jerseys.

The other batting helmet is of one of my all time favorite Tampa Bay Rays Shawn Riggans #11. This helmet was authenticated to the last game of the 2009 MLB season vs. NYY. Shawn wore #11 for the last month of the season instead of his regular #9, becuase the Rays picked up Gregg Zaun who wore #9. Shawn had his final MLB at bat in this helmet, a strikeout vs. Phil Coke. I have the game on video as well.

Now the chase starts of trying to run down Riggans and Blalock to get them to sign both helmets.

Thrilled to get these finds that took 2+ years to run down. Thanks to Korey as welL!

I don't buy a ton of game used (although I wish I could), so I was pretty happy to land this 2011 Glen Perkins Jackie Robinson Day jersey.

Within a couple weeks of obtaining the jersey, I was fortunate enough to see Mr. Perkins at a signing. He signed it with the inscription "Jackie Robinson Day 2011." Autograph looks bad in this pic... this is currently the only pic I have, but I can get more if interested.

I just added this Everyday Eddie signed, game used hat. It's from his days in the PCL. To my knowledge, MiLB documentation in the '90s wasn't as good as it is now, so photomatching is will be pretty much impossible. I also can't confirm that he was #18 with the Buzz as of right now, but I do know that when he spent time in the bigs later that year, he was #18, so I am going to go with that for now.

Pete Rose '76 Bicentennial bat:

I ended up moving around a good number of items in my collection and continue to do so, just to make pickups like this one. For the Reds '76 collection, Rose bats are one of the most difficult as he used pretty much all Adirondacks during the '75-'76 Championship years and the Bicentennial bats in general are always just about impossible.

Picked up a few more Indians items from the team including Brantley and Cabrera home jerseys used from Opening Day until June 18th and a road Carlos Santana used from the beginning of the season through July 8th. Also, a Brantley GU batting helmet. An interesting note on the Cabrera, he is the only player on the tribe that wears the old school jersey as opposed to the cool base fabric.

Wow. Scott Servais is from my hometown in La Crosse, WI. Never really saw a game used jersey of his, let a lone an Olympic jersey.

I remember back in 1992 when he got caled up for the Astros, there was a local auction for an autographed baseball of his. The ball went for $300. Just a regular signed baseball. I was 12 at the time and didn't understand why it went for that much.

I just added this Everyday Eddie signed, game used hat. It's from his days in the PCL. To my knowledge, MiLB documentation in the '90s wasn't as good as it is now, so photomatching is will be pretty much impossible. I also can't confirm that he was #18 with the Buzz as of right now, but I do know that when he spent time in the bigs later that year, he was #18, so I am going to go with that for now.

http://i.ebayimg.com/t/1994-PCL-SALT-LAKE-BUZZ-EDDIE-GUARDADO-GAME-USED-AUTOGRAPHED-HAT-18-/00/s/NTA5WDUwOA==/$%28KGrHqN,%21iME8J7qwongBPy-KiZ96w%7E%7E60_3.JPG

Signature is on the other side of the hat.

I got my hat in today (pictured above) and I just wanted to say it shows a lot of use, as was expected. I doubt players in the mid-1990's PCL were given a ton of hats every year, so it's no surprise that this hat has been worn as much as it has.

Picked up this "Last Out" Mariano Rivera 2007 save baseball. These baseball are hard to find with the "last Out" inscription, this is only the third one, I have seen in the last 4 years or so. Mo has such a beautiful signature and had writing, its hard to believe that he signs his LOA's so terribly. I have seen about ten signed Mo LOA's, and the signature varies so widely. I actually attached a few Mo signed LOA's so everyone can see.

Hey guys. Been a bit since i had any kind of pickup.
Well got 2 this past weekend.
A buddy of mine goes to pats camp and hounds the players for stuff gloves towels whatever he can get. Well he this past weekend had a Chandler Jones auto glove practice used, AAron hernandez glove (signed by wes welker), Hat worn and signed by brandon Spikes & a towel used by Deion Branch.

Got the towel off him for cheep thought it was a cool item.

Then another friend of mine is a friend of ray ventrone (ST player for the browns) He had a bunch of his gloves from ray for sale and i grabbed the pair with the most wear. If any one would be interested in a pair PM me i can get them. These stink as well and been in a bag for quite some time.

Bought this on ebay on a whim from the player's son. Includes the jersey, pants, stirrups, a few photos and a letter from the son detailing what it is. If anyone has anymore knowledge about this uniform please email me. http://i1141.photobucket.com/albums/n596/DJaeger22/IMG_0045.jpg http://i1141.photobucket.com/albums/n596/DJaeger22/IMG_0046.jpg http://i1141.photobucket.com/albums/n596/DJaeger22/IMG_0047.jpg
The baseball uniform belonged to my Dad, who was the pitcher for the team. The team was named the Hollywood Hawks, and they were based in Lake Ronkonkoma, New York. My Dad played with his team from about 1946 after he was discharged from WWII Army Service. His name was Edward Thomas Struller, and he passed away two years ago. After he passed away, my Mom and I were going through his stuff, and we found out that he was actually a POW in the CBI Theater of WWII. His love of baseball lasted his whole life. After playing on the local semi pro team he was offered to join a program that would lead to the Minor League system, and possibly to the Pros, but he declined saying he had spent enough of his life wearing uniforms, and just wanted to start a family. All of this information is what I heard growing up, as it all happened before I was born. I know from my own experience as a kid playing on Little League teams that my father had some serious pitching skills including a fireball fast ball, a nasty submarine pitch that would rise up to, and a knuckle ball that was so good, you could actually read "Spalding" on the ball as it was coming towards you. In the long run, I think my Dad looked back with some regret at not going for the majors, because he never knew if he would have succeeded, but he was a great Father, and a great Husband to my Mom. I wish I could tell you more, but like I said all of this happened before I was alive.

Sincerely Thomas Edward Struller

'61-'62 Mickey Mantle B220 bat:

The B220 model was ordered in the '61-'63 labeling period, though this bat has a background provenance story placing it to the two year time period. Plus the orders, except for one, were all made then as well. Those two years were significant for Mantle and the Yankees, with 1961 being the big home run chase with Maris, with Mick finishing second in the MVP race and the Yankees winning the Series. They also won the World Series in 1962, the last one for that era of the Yankee dynasty, with Mantle then also being named MVP for the season.
The bat has really great use overall, with both sides of the barrel showing heavy grain separation from the switch hitting Mantle, ball and seam marks, and large areas of bat rack scrapes and marks as well.
I owe a big thank you to fellow forum member Scott Foraker for making the introduction to the seller, as he knew I was looking for a nice Mantle bat.

I'm glad you find it funny, we all need a good laugh! But I didn't use the word "Prized" when describing the Cano ball. If you'd like to talk about prized pickups search back on this thread and last month. I picked up a Ichiro hit ball, and a Jeter signed hit ball, those are "prized" pickups. We all sell sometimes because we over buy, or something else comes up, or we just want to turn a profit. Nothing's wrong with that. So I'm not sure why you find the need to question me or others on the forum like you have done before.

I haven't observed Scott (jetersbatboy) enough to know whether buy-to-promote-and-resell is habitual for him or not. But I wish I saw the habitual offenders called out it more often. The abuses of a few make it hard for many to collect. Its a vicious cycle.

Until we eschew the items the buy-to-promote-and-resell folks with an inverse halo effect regarding those items' perceived worth, I fear they will continue to adversely affect our hobby.

In the Reds collecting community we sadly have one of the worst offenders and everybody I've ever talked to totally despises the guy. But few people call out his offenses here to broaden the awareness awareness of him in the National Game Used Collecting Community.

I have no ties with anyone on the forum so I am not taking anyones side...I do actually welcome the fact that people promote their items and make them available for sale if someone is willing to drop a few bucks over what they paid...it allows them some profit for their time and more items available on the open market....not everyone can be close to the honey holes where the items originate

I got the biggest surprise in the mail today. GUU member Don told me that the A's had a Kurt Suzuki catcher's gear set for sale at the memorabilia stand, Austin confirmed this as well. So ever since Sunday I have been trying to track it down.

Hence my surprise when I opened the box that I got today. I was wondering why my wife was sitting at the table smiling at me like crazy. I removed the packing material from the top & staring at me was this A's helmet, I picked it up & then I saw the face mask & shin guards. Under that was the chest protector with the "ZUK #8". I almost passed out at that time.

It was my wife who some how found the Suzuki catchers gear. She won't tell me how much she paid for it or how she got a hold of it. None the less I am so happy with the new addition to my Suzuki collection.

I have the greatest wife in the whole wide world. With all of what we have been going through since the beginning of the year, my many emergency room visits & 2 surgeries that I had. Finances have been very tough with the loss of my income. She has had to do some financial wizardry so that I could get some of my recent acquisitions. I don't know how she pulled off this one. So my Suzuki collection is just as much hers as well as mines.

I got the biggest surprise in the mail today. GUU member Don told me that the A's had a Kurt Suzuki catcher's gear set for sale at the memorabilia stand, Austin confirmed this as well. So ever since Sunday I have been trying to track it down.

Great story. When I first saw the photo, I couldn't figure out how you landed it so fast. :p Then, I read the text. Congrats, man. :D

Congrats Rick! The Suzuki catching gear that Miranda got for you is cherry! If anyone can say they have the "dirt" on Suzuki's gear it would be you.

I had the pleasure of meeting Rick and his wife earlier this year when Rick was on Oahu for a surgery. The time we spent together went by so quick, and it was easy to see that Rick and Miranda are good people. Really, all of the Hawaii collectors I've met (gameused Bobby, jetersbatboy Scott and his family, zeenuts Nelson, and of course Rick, et al) have been great.

Again, congrats, Rick! One of these days my wife might surprise me with Onan Masaoka's 1999 road jersey. Ha ha.

Kind Regards,

Ron.

Congrats Rick! That's some awesome gear! Awesome wife to do that, (not to mention quite the GU collector she is to be able to track it down). You sure she doesn't have a secret GU collection of her own? :)
But that's awesome and I am happy you are still able to collect despite hard times. I also went through some hard times recently and have still tried to collect during it.

Congrats on the great item and having a great wife. Do you have a place and way to display it?

I just acquired an almost complete run of Cardinals TBTC jerseys (many with pants and caps). I now have 14 of the 17 TBTC jerseys; only missing last year's 1985 game (full set still held by the team) and this year's two 1982 games vs. Milwaukee (also not released). This shot includes both new jerseys and some I already had... thought it would be cool to see all 14 hanging together.

Nice Jeff! And congrats on your pickup of the Kolten Wong Futures game cap! I think I picked up the GU bat he used from the Futures game, and while he didn't get a hit in the game, I managed to swoop up a MLB Auth ball he grounded out with in the 1st inning. Working on the photomatch for the bat now. :)

Ron... Miranda & enjoyed our visit with you as well. I may be on Oahu sometime in November for a doctor's visit, hopefully we can see you at that time too. A visit with you is way better than a visit with the doctor.

Brian... Because of my budget I have been concentrating only on my Suzuki collection. I haven't collected anything of Kolten Wong in quite some time. Did you get the Wong cleats that was on eBay? Congratz on the futures bat.

Don... Thanks. Hopeful my wife will tell me how she found the catchers gear, the suspense is killing me. I am planning to remodel my collection room in the near future. I hope to buy a full sized mannequin to display the catchers gear, that is why I am looking for a pair of game used pants.

Rick,

Agreed! I hope Suzuki does well in DC. I still think he will put it all together with the bat. I know he has had some struggles. I know he can do it as he has done it before.

I also hope Wong gets a call up next year sometime. He's being challenged in AA though. It's good for him. Would love to get one of his regular season MiLB jerseys....or an uncracked or even unused MiLB bat of his.

You are in close proximity to (I imagine) some SICK Wong memorabilia! I trust that with your locale and relationship with the family of the Wong's your collection will be the best around in time. I have so few items (4). But I hope to find more along the way.

If you ever come across any items that you don't want or if you get access to any Wong items let me know as I am always interested. Thanks Rick!

Items I got directly off Todd Van Steensel (young Aussie pitcher who was in Twins + Phillies farm system). Todd told over Twitter me he would give me a pair of cleats so I sent him some trading cards of his favourite ball player, Dontrelle Willis as well as a signed photo of an NRL player. He sent me back:

Yeah...I saw the one set on ebay, but the seller almost sold me the gloves. But then I think you came up with the money so I was too late. But I am still trying to get the ball. I was in a bidding war for it and my Mac froze! I had 5 minutes (as the auction weas technically over but I just put in one of many bids after the initial 5 minute mark.). so I rebooted but while waiting got distracted with my dog and when I realized the Auction was at stake! By the time I logged on to mlb.com the auction was over. I was sooo bummed. And that was even before I knew the bat was going to be out there. I am now kicking myself for spacing out as I could have had both. I have tried offering twice the amt the buyer paid for the ball, but he is attached to it (and I don't blame him). Anyways, maybe one day?
