I'd love to see what items other collectors have in there private collections. I'll start with a couple. Can't wait to see what everyone has.

Here is my first post...Game Used and auto'd Reebok Red Fingered batting gloves. These became something of a grail item for me as he only used this style for a single season. Missed out on them on eBay as they went for an astronomical price, turned up at a MEARS auction about 2 months later and went for about half as much. Happy to have them in the collection...finally!

Here are the similarly difficult to find Red 35 Reebok Wristbands that, IMO, were designed to accompany these batting gloves.

Perhaps the best thing to come out of ESM. Love it! Do you still have the signed loa?

Keep em coming!

Lastly on the Reebok and Red issued gloves and wristbands I present my Frank Thomas glove, cir 1997-99. The missing thumb holder was going to be a deal breaker for me, but then I got to looking at some pictures and I began to feel better.

Here is another example of how the card companies are ruining OUR hobby. This is probably one of the best examples of why its been so hard to track down a pair of those red fingered batting gloves! Talk about frustrating. When I first saw this card I gasped for air LOL Would I ever be able to find myself of pair for my collection, or had they all been chopped up and vultured for card use.

Yes, I actually bought it from www.gameusedsportsonline.com (http://www.gameusedsportsonline.com), they had it and I saw the inscription and recognized it from the ESM contract. I received the photo of thomas signing the bat with the signed LOA. Was a great purchase, they had one more and I wish I would have bought it.

They also had, at the time, 3-4 Robinson Cano signed and inscribed gamers on that website, the cheapest was $150 because it was a melvin mora model:eek: , still, wish I would have purchased EVERY single one. They capped at the time at about $300. What a steal that would have been.

Here is my new item for the day. I didn't know what I was going to post next, but Jerry supplied me with a great segway...so without further ado, I present to you a pair of first year style Reebok batting gloves (circa 1993). Purchased from Mr Sage, thank you again. These are the more standard black on black style with white knuckles and white Reebok patch. I especially like how Big Franks number was written on the number flap...I have seen gloves with the number written and without.

Thanks for looking and enjoy!

Todays update is another pair of batting gloves from 1993. BUT, this time, they are white on black with white Reebok patch and white knuckles. Number written on the strap. They show good use. Another unique pair of gloves to come across.

Todays update is going to fast forward us to the 2002 season with the Chicago White Sox. Frank clubbed 28 hrs, had 90 bb's, along with 92 rbi's, and 132 hits. Below is 1 of the estimated 3 team issued away jerseys from Frank's 02 season. It is appropriately tagged 02 48 S3 and shows excellent wear/game use.

After an injury plagued 2001 season that saw Big Frank in only 20 games, the 2002 season was one filled with challenges, hope, and frustration as he was only two years removed from his runner up performance for the al mvp award in 2000, but coming back from a very challenging leg injury. He had a lot to prove and a lot of catching up to do. Of note regarding his season, he managed to swipe 3 bases and gallop into 3B for his 10th career triple...proving to many skeptics that his leg had fully recovered and he was back on track to being that premiere ball player.

Todays update advances us even further into the Big Hurts career as I share the first of two pairs of team issued, game used cleats from his Oakland playing days. For me, seeing Frank in any uniform other than a Sox uni is still a bit shocking, but there was a great allure in tracking down items with colors other than black and white.

The first pair is a custom Nike high top spike that seemed to be his favorite style while donning the A's colors as he can be seen in both 2006 and 2008 wearing this style. I think one of the most interesting aspects of these cleats is that you can really see how Nike transformed a pair of high top sneakers into baseball spikes...a style choice that seemed to be a popular trend starting around 2005/2006. It would seem that this frankenstein approach to cleat design made for a more comfortable feeling shoe.

This pair exhibits light use with some dirt marks and color toning...use that I would think would be fair assessment for a DH who saw limited action in the green and gold thanks inpart to another leg injury and mid season team change. Enjoy.

A's cleats, post 2 of 2

As promised today I deliver another pair of the Big Hurts Nike cleats from 2008. It seems that this was a style that he enjoyed while wearing a Jays uni during warm-ups...so when he signed with the A's for the remainder of the 08 season I can see how he would've wanted to try these out in Oakland too.

These cleats again show light use...but that really isn't too surprising to me. While I have not found an exact style match photo for these A's spikes I have found a shot from Franks Toronto's days during spring training. Hope you enjoy em!

HAPPY FOURTH OF JULY EVERYONE!

Todays post is of one of the more intriguing items in my Frank Thomas collection. I purchased this bat more as a trophy bat than anything else, but it appears to be more than that...let me explain.

For years I had watched this GU Rawlings All-Star game bat, but the asking price was way to high for a couple of reasons (again, I'll be getting to that). Eventually, like all items, this particular bat ended up at an auction and I was able to purchase it for a much more reasonable amount of money. Here is the interesting part...the bat shows light use and is graded as such. Quite a pleasant surprise IMO. BUT, Frank wasn't swinging Rawlings at this point in his career; he was still swinging Worth!!!!!

So, here are my exact thoughts of this bat. This was a presentation bat issued to the Big Hurt for making the All-Star game from Rawlings. When Worth stopped making bats, was Rawlings trying to scoop up their old contracts? It is a professional bat and I'm thinking they guessed on his length and weight preferences. Perhaps THIS is the first Rawlings bat that Frank ever had in his possession. The bat is a mammoth and weighs almost an ounce and a half heavier than any other bat of his that I own. Its not completely crazy to think that he could have enjoyed the feel of the bat, taken a couple of cuts with it, decided it was too heavy to use in the game...but wanted to explore their brand in the future.

This is why it gets interesting again...Frank began to use different bat brands in 1995. From what I can tell he at least tried out Kissimmee Stix and went back to LVS briefly before finally ending on Rawlings.

Attached are some images of my bat along with some images from before the All Star game and during the HR Derby (you'll notice he is swinging a Worth).

Hope everyone had a great holiday! I'm going to take us right back into the mid-90's right smack dab in the thick of Reebok's contract with Frank Thomas. I picked this pair up from Craigslist. These might be my favorite pair of Thomas spikes that I have in my collection...I'm nostalgic and remember them "pumps"!!! They are both auto'd and show great use. Happy to share these with you guys.

For your viewing pleasure I present this 1995 game worn away jersey. It shows good use with fading, piling, and loose threads. Believe you me pics do not do this jersey justice. Patches are soft...this jersey was well loved.

Wade:

Good choice.

You (and othetrs) might get a laugh out of this story: in the early 1990s, a dealer showed me a C243 LS bat with THOMAS on the barrel, but the number 14 written on the knob. His "story" was that the bat was Frank's from the minor leagues. Reserach showed that the bat was actually a MLB bat...of ANDRES Thomas, a player with Atlanta who wore #14 in the late 1980s.

A couple busy days at work and no update!!! I've got some catching up to do.

The first item that I would like to share today is an item that was sourced direct from the team. I was beside myself when a fellow collector offered me this piece and was very happy to purchase it. Complete with paperwork from the Oakland Athletics I present to you this very beautiful game used green alternate jersey of Frank Thomas.

It displays incredibly well showing excellent use, puckering and softening of patches, as well as a couple loose threads here and there. Dated and tagged as a Set 2 jersey from the 2006 season (Thomas's comeback player of the year award year) this size 52 jersey is a monster!!!!

I have seen only one other Thomas gamer from this season offered, but it didn't have the paperwork to accompany it nor did it have the set tagging as shown below.

Pics definately do not to this item justice. When I have the time I will shoot some higher res photos to share, but for now, these will have to do.

Update number 2 for today!

Another jersey to complete his major league team run. This jersey will take us to Big Franks time as a Blue Jay. This charcoal black Cool Base 1 button neck jersey features the fancy Toronto logo on the front in blue, black, and silver. On the back features a matching blue and silver 35 (NNOB on this style). The MLB logo is sewn above. Majestic logo in white is on the left sleeve. White inserst are sewn under each arm (white = home, grey = away).

Blue Jays player Lyle Overbay also wore the number 35 during this time period (changed his number to 17 when Frank arrived), BUT he is/was definately not wearing a size 52 jersey. So rest assured this is Big Franks.

This is a 3 year style jersey that was worn for the 07-09 seasons and came purchased direct from the Blue Jays. This ST/BP style jersey shows good use (that which would be expected from a Dh) and displays all the proper tagging including the 0068 pro-coded curled washing tag.

The year is 1997. Frank Thomas was on another incredible offensive tear. When the dust would settle at the end of the season, the Big Hurt would be finishing in the top ten in just about every batting category, and perhaps this is the reason why he would win the A.L. Batting title this year.

When you stop and look at his actual numbers throughout the season, you can see why this juggernaut of a player was a perennial triple crown contender day in and day out. In 1997, he would finish with a .347 batting average. His slugging percentage would rank him 2nd in th A.L. at .611, averaging a HR every 15.1 at-bats, and ultimately finishing the season with 35 dingers (a number that seems all too fitting).

This Game Used Home pinstriped jersey exhibits good use and is unsigned. Some numerical/tag fading has occured through numberous washes, as well as some thread pulls and number/patch softening. A perfect GU jersey from Frank's batting title year!

Until Frank signed his Reebok deal, Reebok had yet to break into MLB. So, signing the soon to be 2 time AL MVP to a deal turned out not only timely, but also a learning experience as well!

By 1993 when Big Frank and Reebok came to terms, he stood with a massive frame of 6'5" that carried around 250 lbs worth of raw talent and power. He was (and still is IMO) quite a large man/athlete.

Reebok quickly began dishing out sports garb specific to Frank with their logo on it...baseball cleats, batting gloves, and wristbands. Only problem was that the first shipment of wristbands looked like a watch on Franks arm. The first batch of wristbands that Reebok sent were only a little over 3" in length. By the time Frank got them over his huge hands and adorned them on his wrists, they where less then stylish and, frankly, too small!!!!

Reebok quickly addressed the problem and made a new batch of wristbands that were almost two times the size of the original ones. Below are an example from the two shipments along with a ruler for scale reference. Hope you enjoy!

Imagine the potential mix-up trouble that the collecting world would be in IF Andres Thomas chose to be one number north of his 14. How many Frank Thomas LVS #15 bats would be in the hobby!!!! YIKES.

I love this thread. Frank was one of the most feared hitters in my time. Guy was clutch. I purchased this bat off eBay where it didn't sell. Email the seller and come to a price. Who is the seller, you say? Dalton Saberhagen, the son of former KC Royals Bret. Doesn't get any better than that. Love this bat!

Throughout Big Frank's 18 year career he understandably changed brands from time to time. When I think of Frank Thomas I think Reebok, but Nike seemed to be a close second. For today's update, I happily present a pair of Game Worn Nike Wristbands that date to the early 2000's (if I'm not mistaken). Enjoy.

Forgot I had this. Not a Frank gamer but close enough.

Ball from Frank's 500 homer game. Used to have three but sold the other two.

Joel,
You beat me to it.. I'd love to see a Thomas Auburn or Barons jersey. If I ever win the lottery I will have Auburn jersey's of Frank Thomas, Charles Barkley, and Bo Jackson. Three of the greatest athletes in the 3 major sports all from one great University.

Sylbry,

Great ball ;) !!!! Sucks that the authentication program was still up and coming towards the end of Franks career, but at the same time thankful that there was a program for items like that! Love it!

Joe & Jimmy,

I have never seen a Thomas Auburn gamer or Team USA jersey  I would love to have one in the collection though as well. I have seen a 1990 #15 Home sox jersey hit the market before...just didn't have the funds needed to be aggressive at it. Oh well. Next time.

Everyone...

Keep those items coming. I will continue to post, just have had quite an erratic schedule for consistency. I'm digging sharing the collection with you guys.

[QUOTE=WadeInBmore;299283]Today's update goes out to Nick. 1990 LVS Frank Thomas GU bat with a nice early signature to accompany it. The bat is uncracked and shows good use. No pine tar and some great grain only helps the eye appeal and presentation of this bat.

Great bat Wade! Not many of those floating around, I'd love to pick one up one of these days.

Wade did you pick up the # 15 jersey that was up for auction a couple months back?

Nick...

Unfortunately no :( Pockets just weren't that deep at that particular time. Kind of a bummer, but at the same time...kind of reassuring that the jersey actually exhists and hasn't been cut up by a card company yet ;) One day.

You know, my biggest fear of collecting Thomas is that one day I will be priced out of collecting him (when he gets into the HoF)!!! Sometimes, random items, seem to spike in price for no real reason. I hope I'm wrong, but given past trends, I fear that I could be correct.

Over the years that 1990 Thomas bat has garnered many tempting offers...almost as many as my Andruw Jones F*ck You Ball bat :p If I see one, I will let you know.

Todays update takes us back to 2005, the Chicago White Sox world series year and the last season that Big Frank would wear the Sox uniform. Like many years towards the end of his career, '05 was plagued with injuries and Frank saw some rehab time in the minors.

I've always wanted to nab a Thomas minor league garment, so when I saw that a forum member had this jersey I had to reach out and see if I could acquire it. The jersey features good use, most notably a renumbering. The #41 is an odd one IMO for Frank, but I have a theory that goes along with it. I believe that due to the stature of Mr. Thomas the only jersey that they had available in his size was currently number with 41 and another memeber of the team had been using 35. So the Big Hurt graciously used the 41 jersey and the team renumbered a warm-up in his size with 41.

From the 2005 season, here is Franks BP/Warm-up Jersey with the Charlotte Knights, a Sox affiliate at the time. Also included is a shot of Frank in their game uni's...showing his #41. This jersey was purchased directly from the team following Franks departure and was sold as being used by the big man himself.

Bummer you missed out on that jersey, it was one of a kind. I placed a bid, I believe around $1,500 but I actually just assumed that you were going to get that jersey no matter what it ended up going for.
Let me know if you come across another '90 bat or earlier!

2008. Franks last MLB season. It had its ups and downs. Todays update takes us right back into the controversial release of the Big Hurt by the Toronto Blue Jays. For your viewing pleasure I'm happy to present the locker room nameplate that hung above Franks locker for his last game as a Blue Jay. Purchased direct from the Jay and MLB authenticated...if you look at the date, they removed it the day after he was released! This thing is huge!!!

Not game used, BUT one of my favorite items in the Thomas collection. This is a signed Topps contract from1990...from my estimation this is the second Topps contract that Thomas had in his career. Totally dig this.

2007 Toronto Blue Jays White Home Jersey.

This coolbase Jays jersey is one of approximately 6 styles of jerseys that the jays wore in 07 as they were still wearing the classic knits. The jersey is MLB authenticated and was purchased directly from the Toronto Blue Jays. The jersey shows use/washwear...basically what you would expect to see from a DH.

One of the tougher GU issues to find of Franks IMO.

IMO the BEST thing to come out of Elite Sports Marketing, Frank Thomas HR bats as he approached 500...I believe they sold numbers 480-498 (+ or - one in the front/back side).

This was the first HR bat that I ever bought. HR #492, signed and inscribed as such by, my guy, Mr. Frank Thomas. Also accompanying this bat is a customized LOA specific to the bat and signed by Big Frank. Great ball markings and indentations from one of the games best hitters of all time (hands raised in defense, my opinion).

2007 was a historic year for Frank...on June 28th he hit HR#500. It was about 40 days prior that he connect for number 492 off of Edwin Jackson of the Tampa Bay Devil Rays. It was a full count in the bottom of the third, with Vernon Wells on base. With the game tied at 1, Frank hit a deep line drive over the fence in left center.

Only thing I have is a cap that I think is from Aug 1994. Here's the GettyImages link:

And here are the images of the cap:

I hope this is worthy of being in this thread, since it's from his second MVP season, during which he put up an astonishing .353/.487/.729 line.
